I've never thought about these two together but this was really good and believeable as well! I usually don't like Valens much but I loved him here and I hope you write more for these two.
Author's Response: Thank you so much! Valens grew on me the more I watched and I started to understand why he is the way he is a little more. I love his interactions with Kat because I feel like she really gets him but isn't impressed at all by what she sees. Which makes for great, shippy fics for them too. :)

This was really fun to read, mainly because I have never really envisioned these two as a couple. But after reading this I can now. I haven’t actually watched the show that much, but used to before and although it never crossed my mind, I can see it now. The way the story pans out fits in with the TV show. This was fun to read.

God, this was so good.
I've never pictured Kat and Valens together (for some weird reason I entertain the idea of her and Vera getting together for a purely comical one night stand). I have the same reservations Kat has about Valens, he loves headcases, tendds to fuck and run, and he seems like the wrong guy because of his temper. But nobody's perfect.
I think this works for me because it feels like an organic, real relationship instead of a sweeping romance. It fits in with cannon of Cold Case. You're not going to get champagne and roses with these people, but a healthy dose of a real relationship, flaws and all.
And can I say your description of Lily fron Valens point of view was spot on. She's tough but there's an air of fragilty to her that annoys me, even though it adds to why I like her.

I don't think I shipped kat/Scotty quite this hard until this season. They've paired them up so much lately, and they've established that they're friends too, which got my mind working. I don't think I could ever write Scotty as a sweeping romantic lead, that's just not who he is. Neither is Kat. But I do think he's a romantic in an old fashion sense, he sees women a certain way. And though he objectifies them, he doesn't disrespect the ones he cares about, if that makes sense.

Sweet. I too watch Cold Case because of her. Makes me wonder if they will take that route with Scotty because indeed he is a manwhore. Sometimes I wonder with whom he will settle town but I do love the concept of these two getting together. Great story understand why its a one-shot but still wanted more...

Okay, so where is the rest of the story? Now you managed to get me hooked on Kat and Scotty and I want my ACTION, (you know what I mean,LOL) I was always afraid that they would try to pair Scotty with Lily, but thank god they have not. So now your One-shot has me thinking:mmmmmh, I like Scotty and Kat together. They could be great. But as always I think that TIIC are not trying anything like that on the show.
Anyways, great writing as always, really in character I think. Have you applied for a job as writer there yet? If not, I think you should really do it.

LOL, I know, I know. I just coudn't get there with this fic, but I think there will be more in the next one I write about them. I'm glad they didn't pair him with Lily either, I never really felt like she would go there. But I think Kat would, she's a little reckless at times. And I think they have an awesome chemistry together.

Okay yeah. I was reading this with wide "It's Cold Case! It's Cold Case!" eyes. You know this show backwards and forwards. It's kind of scary how close this was. And Kat's awesome. You know she's awesome. She was amazing in this story. Hard ass, funny, smart and just an all around kick ass character. Tracey is just a ball of kick ass is she not?
Now for Scotty. *eyes you*. Okay, uhmmm, you made me smile with his inner dialogue. Damn that dude is such a dude. He's so....guyish. And you captured that beautifully. I swear if this happened on the show I'd be over the moon. I can see it in his eyes, he wants to know what it's like to have a woman like that in his life. I loved the ending, the way he went for it. Awesomeness. Perfect way to end the fic.
I was however, diasppointed that Scotty didn't get a chance to invistigate a crime scene. What would we dooooo without his help, hmmmmm? :p
I love this story. I'm kinda pissed it's not what's happening on the show.

Hee! Thanks Black. I really wanted this to be Cold Case, and get the character voices right. I loved writing both of them, but especially Scotty. I can't wait to tackle that guy one more time. And I promise he will "investigate" in the next one I write. :D I pray that this happens before that show goes off the air.

I haven't watched Cold Case in years but loved the story. For some reason Kat always struck as someone who played for 'the other team'. Interesting to see that she doesn't...and is now getting it on with the hottest man on the show!

I'm speechless.....almost: so I liked it, that was nice. Makes me wish I could watch Cold Case. But nice character description. Nice toggle narrative. By the end I was like 'just kiss her already!'

Now, TBG, I know this is not the end! There has to be more; you're joking right? I liked this story. I've watched Cold Case and it is really a good show plus Scott is all kinds of cute. Great story. At first, I thought that their getting together may get in the way of what they have but I agree with Scott. It's time to throw caution to the wind and do the damn thang!!!!! I just hope it doesn't get weird afterwards. Plus, I think Kay might be the woman to change Scott's "pimpish" ways, well, I would like to see if she could.

I like what you did with the story. But now I am somewhat on the fence. There is the whole friend aspect of their relationship, but I so see how they could be something so much more. I know each of them are afriad of losing each others firendship, but you just have wonder what could be. Thanks for sharing. Please be sure to write them again.

Thanks zeta! I didn't want to answer the good or bad question with this one. Its pretty much the choice Scotty and Kat made about their relationship. I think if I wrote them again, it would be about the ramifications of that decision, and whether it was the right one. I have no idea at this point.
