Well isn't Henny's grandma a bitch, she's looking down her nose at Henny and her mother, and she was treated the same by henry's family. You would have thought that woulf]d have made her more understanding. At least Henry sr is coming around, his grandaughter has won him over. Can't wait for more Brenda, Keep up the good work

I dont blame Henny one bit! Sometimes you just need to look 'em in the eye and see it and hear it for yourself.
Good for Henny!

What an endearing story... it was so true!
We still have people like this today. I am so glad that Henny and her father are going to have a strong relationship.
the Grandfather is a hoot..

That was so good, Henry's momma is a bitch on two wheels!! I am so glad that Henny spoke up and told them right. I was proud of Henny and she impressed Henry Sr. as well. Loving it!!!!

Brenda thanks for this story I am so glad to read about Henry as a child. HIs parents were worthless and if it hadn't been for Minnie Henry would have been a lost cause. Henry will have his work cut out with Henny, to her his getting close with her is all about getting Vanessa back. He needs to show her otherwise.

Thanks for the MLK Day update!
I was initially quite apprehensive about Henny going to see her grandparents, but I'm glad that at least her grandfather seems to be coming around. Her grandmother is quite the hateful witch though, isn't she...
It's sad that so many years after MLK's death there is still so much hate and intolerance in the world, but at least we are heading in the right direction (for the most part anyway).
Happy MLK Day to you, Brenda and thanks for the snippet!

Great update Brenda! The title is very appropriate, Henny shall overcome.

Very delightful. I chuckle at Henny's interaction with her grandparents. Henry Sr. seem taken with Henny. Henry's mom on the other hand... what a pistol. She resents Henny for reminding her of her past and looking like her mother in law.

Great chapter! Glad Henry Sr. Is willing to accept Henny, hopefully Emily comes around too!

Don't you just hate nosy neighbors? Vanessa is a grown woman and people including grandma should stay out of her business. I hope she and Henry fight to be together!

It's interesting that in the beginning one could come down hard on Henry for how he treated Vanessa. But I've learned with your stories that things are not always as they seem. Your characters are given so many layers and you paint a full picture of who those characters are and that takes time. So, while the initial reaction may be, how could he do that? With each installment you get a better idea of the circumstances and human flaws an frailities involved. I love that about your storytelling.
On a more humorus note, when I'm reading about the grandmother and Uncle, I get a Madea and that brother of hers picture. I don't know why that popped into my head. Can't wait to see the Uncle after all these years and his wrong-headed notions. Henry is no longer that naive little kid that he was. I'm thinking he'll be able to hold his own.
Author's Response:
Thank you BellaChica: I do that because there is always a reason why people are the way they are. Every character I write will not always be redeemable, because all people cannot recover and move on from their pain, so they continue to hurt others. As a minister I've learned that.
For example, Henry's parents are still the same even though the child they wanted to get rid of ended up saving their only child's life. They pushed that fact out of their minds. Howvever, they are going to come face to face with Henrietta and that will be interesting.
I guess it's the minister in me coming out.l All babies are born innocent. Negative behavior is learned and pain that is inflicted is repeated. I love redemption. It is always somewhere hidden in my stories. LOL Howver, as I said, everyone cannot be redeemed, I know that.
LOL at Madea. I hadn't thought about that, but now I can't get those two out of my mind. If it looks like Madea and her brother in the next installment, it's your fault. LOL
Thank you for reviewing. We all are a work in progress and only God's grace can help us to move closer to what our LORD really wants us to become.

I think Henny is slowly warming uop to her father, it's a good thing her friends were their to push her in to going out with him, and all credit to Henry for riding the rides until he was sick, just to impress his daughter. As for grannie, she seems like a tough cookie, but I think she will crumble under Henry's charm, Lamont is just blowing hot air, as his mother said, look at the choices you made before you start to lay the blame for your life at others doors.

What a sheltered life Henry lived. I felt bad for him. I was glad that he out Henny in her place when she was talking bad about her mother. Thanks for a great read.
