I'm glad someone else pointed it out! I feel the same way you do, I like knowing that a character has a similar look to me. I'm glad the rug is being lifted.

Well written. Not preachy, which I was kind of dreading. As well I like the celebrity you casted as Jameson snr. He's one of the few I can picture in such a setting. Good choice!!!!.

I just read your notes and couldn't agree more, ESPECIALLY about the dark skinned black women, but would also appreciate reading about slim women as well. Am also very tired of seeing pics of celebrities representing the characters as they tend to distract me from really getting into the story, BECAUSE, most of them are not sympathetic (those female rap or reality stars. YUCK!). So I appreciate you giving me the opportunity to voice my opinion on this as well. Am off to read and will leave a review.

Nice shot! Jameson Sr is near too damn perfect, right ?!! Would love to read more about the two kids. Just like writing stories with WOC as main female characters isn't about "bashing" white women, but reacting to a gaping and systemic racism and lack of diversity in most fictions (movies, TV, books), writing about dark skinned WOC, with average size (i.e. around 12, 14, 16...) and nappy hair or weave/extentions/braids isn't about dashing light skinned WOC but trying to create space of even more diversity and help create, modestly, more inclusive beauty types.

I loved it and I love how you addressed the dark skin vs. light skin issue. I am beyond tired with sweeping this under the rug too. I often find myself wondering why there isn't more variety in the main female characters. Considering we come in all beautiful shades and sizes, I wish there was more diversity in the fiction I read.
Kyle and Jameson are everything. Glad they found each other and even happier that Langston put aside his earlier judgments and got to know Jameson. Jameson definitely gets "it." Sometimes it gets frustrating having to constantly explain your perspective; ahh Kyle has a good one.
I hope we get more insight into these two in the future. And please, more on Junior and Sierra, something is definitely there. Hope you explore those two sooner rather than later.
Love your writing. <3

Thank you for the words "irrelevant and useless", because there is beauty in all shades. As a mother of 2 girls who have completely different skin tones and facial features, I want them both to feel beautiful and secure despite media definition of so called "beauty". Thank you for addressing this in a classy and tasteful way without the bashing of other skin tones. I'm just jelly of the booty, I don't have :(. Sorry for the long review.

Some of the people I think are the most beautiful I have ever seen have been of dark complexion. The people I know who have such dark complexion have the most gorgeous, even, silky smooth looking skin.

I think this is a great idea. Then I don't have to adjust the skin tone in my imagination when I read. Perhaps challenge?
