Title: The Rebellions of Simone Russell

She's been through quite a bit in her life and I can identify with never quite feeling worthy, it is a hard road to travel. I cannot wait to read the follow-up to this, because this was so well written and I fell into the world you created easily. Seeing this vividly in my mind.

Author's Response:

Thanks for the wonderful comments. I've always felt that Simone had it hard. She was always came second after Whitney and no one ever chose her first, which is why I love putting her in a situation where she is first and finds someone who realizes how awesome she is.

Shit man! I was going to write wow but I guess you must be sick of me writing that over and over. But what can you say really? I mean having to articulate awe is kinda hard for me…I don’t know, when I read any of your stories I feel very quiet after the end, just awash with emotion. It stays with me afterwards. I guess that’s the best way for me to explain it.

But onto the story. This one was awesome cause Simone is someone that you can relate to so well. Her feelings, her emotions and her tribulations. What I liked even more of how hopeful and optimistic she is and how open minded she is.

She doesn’t waste time with if’s and why’s and buts. She doesn’t regret or procrastinate or get bitter. I really admired her for resolve and for the fact she’s so openhearted.

Shameful as this sounds when I was her age (lol I make it sound like it was ages ago) I would have resented my sister, I would not have had sex with Reese all because of the fact he’s a geek. Don’t get me wrong, I like him in this story, and I was especially touched by how sweet he was but when you’re 18, you do care about what other people think.

This was fantastic, and I hope you keep writing about Simone Russell. I like her too much for this to be the end. Greak work.

Author's Response:

Thanks, Sophiya!

The quiet ending was exacatly what I was going for. Going to college means ups and downs and I didn't want to end it on a happy or sad note because college is neither and both of things.

I don't think it's shameful at all to have those feelings at that age. Truth be told, if I were Simone I never would've looked twice at Reese (even though I loved geeky boys at that age, and still do, and I too would've resented the hell out of Whitney. Simone slept with Reese at first because she wanted to lose her virginity and who better to lose it to but another loser. She didn't expect to find a friend and a lover. Reese opened her eyes to a new way of living. Reese doesn't care much what others think of him and he's happy because of that. I think also with the last year of school, Simone realizes that there's more to life than Harmony and that there's a big world out there, so who cares about what these small town people think.

I hope to keep writing about Simone. She's one of my favourite daytime characters who was never done right by the writers.

Thanks again!

It was best she left home.

Author's Response: I think so as well. Simone needed to go out and see the world and grow. Thanks!

Wow. I really enjoyed this. Your story was very grounded and very real and what I wish Passions actually was. Simone, as played by  both actresses, never ever got her due on the show. I'm glad to see it here.

Have you ever thought about doing an alternate version of this story as seen through lightskinned!Simone's eyes?

Author's Response:

Thanks, Marie.

I've never thought about doing an alternate version with lightskinned!Simone. I never related to any other of the actresses who played Simone after Lena. I think without Lena's likeness Simone becomes too much of Whitney's equal.

wow, amazing job. i'm more a whit fan than simone, but i couldn't help but imagine lena all through this and really enjoying your take on. i def agree that simone unfortunately inhabited whit's shadow most of the time, and that whit in a way 'saved' her sister from having to go through chad's bs.

great ending. would love to see this continue with her in atlanta and see what happens.

Author's Response:

Thanks, bluestpurple!

I laugh at the idea that Whitney saved Simone, especially after the d-bag Chad turned out to be. I could rant about that guy, but I won't.

Okay, first I have to geek out a bit because you wrote about the Passions I was actually a fan of. Well, maybe not a fan, but I did watch the show at the begining and it was nice to read about Chad and Kay, TC and Eve. And Reese! Especially Reese. :)

I love how you molded each of these characters into what they should have been. Simone's thoughts about Chad were dead on, and her observation of her sister's relationship with him even more so. I love that Whitney was slapped and came home "smelling of Chad," you made that character so much more interesting then she was with that one little sentence.

The jr. prom was my favorite part though, from watching others dance from the sidelines, to the surpisingly sweet first time with Reese, it was just really well done. And that losing her virginty could be healing for her in a lot of ways, allow her to create her own life instead of wishing for someone else's.

This was great. This was really, really great. Thank you for sharing it with us. :)

Author's Response:

I remember when Passions first started and you could ignore the crazy ish because it had so much potential. I miss those times.

I'm so glad I found someone else who loved Reese. He was so awesome and such wonderful eyecandy. I was a hardcore Reese/Simone shipper back in the day, and writing this brought back my shipperness. Two outcasts in love.

Whitney was a character I never knew what to make of. I hated her in the beginning, sort of liked her during the Foxney thing, although I loved the couple, but most of the time I was indifferent. She had an interesting background, but she still came off as boring.

Losing her virginity was a big step for Simone, because she chose once again not to do what she was suppose to. She learns that she is desirable and she is just as sexy as her sister.

Thanks for reading, Token :)

Oh I loved this. I'm so glad you posted an answer to the challenge. I've been looking forward to it for a while.

I watched Passions for a brief moment in time and I love the way you nailed the dynamic of Whitney and Simone. I always felt like Simone was one of the most put upon ignored females in daytime.  And you gave new insight into her fixation on Chad.  Love how it really wasn't about him, but about what he represented.

The section with Reese and Simone losing their virginity was very, very well written. Very realistic.  Love that moment for her.  It wasn't about romance or love but it was nice with a boy who respected her which is more than most girls end up getting.

The end was perfect.  I was so rooting for her to get out of that situation.  Heading to Altanta left me hopeful she'd succeed despite everyone telling her she can't.  Thanks again for posting this lucky. It was awesome.

Author's Response:

Simone was one of the most put upon females in daytime and I think part of it was the way she looked. Lena Cardwell has the stereotypical black female's body and she isn't as commercially beautiful as Brook Kerr, so I think the writers had no idea what to do with Simone. When Simone was recast that was when the character started getting storylines (albeit silly ones).

Chad wasn't that great a guy, so I could never buy that Simone was in love with him for him. She was ignored by her family and by her so-called best friend and then came along this guy who seemed to like her. It made sense to me.

Simone's first time was great when you think about it. Reese genuinely likes and respects her and you can't go wrong with a guy like that.

In my head, Simon's alright. She'll still have esteem problems and her family situation won't get better, but she'll start loving herself more as they years go by.

Thanks for reading, BlackMamba :)

That poor girl did always get pushed aside on that show for story lines that were untterly ridiculous. At least she's heading South!!!!!

Author's Response:

Simone did always get pushed aside, and boy, did I hate Whitney during the first couple of years I watched the show. She got a bit more depth during the Foxney storyline, but the writers ruined that story and the couple for me. I hated that the writers never knew what to do with Simone. I feel like writing more fic just to make up for the nonsense the character had to endure.

I don't watch Passions but I enjoyed your story. The characters came alive; I could envision how they looked and sounded. Great job!

Author's Response: Thanks, loveemboth! I feel like I should be recommending Passions, but it's off the air and damn was it a frustrating show.

I have no idea what fandom this is Au from but I liked this coming of age story no matter where it's from.

Author's Response:

The fic is based on Passions, that crazy soap with the talking doll and the intersexed character who had a baby by his/her father. Trust me, it wasn't so bad in the beginning.

Thanks so much for your wonderful comment!
