Title: Chapter 3

Their little flirtations are so cute! Even I blush when she blushes.

Author's Response: Thank you! I was hoping that their flirtations would be believeable, as well as Mary's responses.

Oh oh, hope Sir Little Bits recovers. Poor Richard is feeling guilty, hopefully everything works out ok esp with Mary supporting him. Hope he doesn't make himself sick. Great update.

You are kicking major ass over here. I can't wait to see what happens next

Author's Response: Thanks! I hope I continue to kick ass. Things get a little more complicated as the story progresses. I've written up to Chapter 14 where things get a little more dramatic and I am always afraid that the ride I have in store for them will be a bit ridiculous.

Title: Chapter 6

Loved it. Hopefully Mr Darcy gives his support but they're gonna have a rough ride in regency period. Richard may fair better in dealing with certain situations but I'm not too sure about Mary as she is young, naive and has been sheltered.

Title: Prologue

i love period pieces and just recently starting rereading my austen collection.

when you are done with this story you should consider getting the rights to do a continuation piece!  i think austen fans will be delighted with this gem as well.

looking forward to more updates!!! great job!!

Author's Response: Thanks so much for the kind words! Once it is complete, I plan to do a rewrite and try to get it published. I know Pride and Prejudice spin offs are popular, but I haven't seen any cross cultural novels on the market. I also thought about taking out all of the Pride and Prejudice references, as the story works quite well without them, but then I wonder if that would just hurt its future marketability. Mary is an original character, as is Col Fitzwiliiam, for the most part. His character is mentioned so briefly in Pride and Prejudice that I pretty much got to create him from scratch.

Title: Chapter 3

The hunt is on.  I don't like Elizabeth's comments to Mary, what is really behind that.  Although no one has mentioned Mary's skin color, could that be the reasoning for Elizabeth's comments?  Fitzwilliam is a charmer and I think his affections are true.  Thanks for the update again.

Author's Response: I think Elizabeth was being sincere. Mary's color may have had a bit to do with it. I don't think Elizabeth is against the pair, rather, she knows society and the expectations placed on the Colonel as a second son and a member of the gentry. Just as she knew her and her sisters' marriage prospects were low due to their lack of wealth and that Colonel Fitzwilliam would not consider her as a bride (something he told her outright at Rosings), Elizabeth knows that Mary's color and status (she doesn't know her real father and is probably illigetimate) would also normally take her out of the running. But, this Col Fitzwilliam is a different one from the man we met in Pride and Prejudice. He is older and wiser and some of his priorities in life have shifted due to what he has seen.

Little William is so cute and I love how he calls her Princess Mary. He is not going to like Fitzwilliam coming along and stealing his girl!

The flashback was such a heartbreaker. I could see her with her little bag trying to travel with her papa.

I don't blame Mart for her concerns with Mr. Brambles departure. Who knows what news he will bring with him when he returns.

Title: Prologue

Jovanfanever,

Sorry, I deleted your question by mistake. I picture Freema Agyeman of Doctor Who and Law and Order UK playing Mary. I was trying to find pictures of dark skinned black women in Regency garb, but such pictures are hard to come by. Freema played Tattycoram in Little Dorrit. I imagined Mary as taller than Freema. I don't like to write petite heroines, maybe because I am not petite :-P So, if Col. Fitzwilliam is 6'2, Mary is 5'8. So, in the picture below, put Freema in platform shoes and give her a bit of a tan, and you'd have a good visual of Mary :)

Poor Mary.  This is so well written.  Which actors are playing Mr. Darcy, Elizabeth, and Georgiana?  I keep seeing Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy.

Author's Response:

thanks! I envision the 1995 Pride and Prejudice cast. Colin Firth will always be my Mr. Darcy :) Jennifer Ehle is Lizzy.

For Col Fitzwilliam, I did not have an actor in mind. I didn't find the 1995 Colonel to be that dreamy. Now I picture Col Fitzwilliam as looking like Toby Stephens, but with dark hair.
