I enjoy the cast thus far. I'm hoping to see some Julius Campbell/Gerry Bertier action because I KNOW I cannot be the only girl who saw those sparks a-flying. Alan was always a favorite and I LOVE Ryan Gosling. This could be good.

Alan's father's race hatred is typical of most but he really violently expresses it. He is ready to kill Alan to terminate his son's union with a Black girl! The bulwarks of race hatred are strong! It seems Alan sincerely cares for Regina, I think their initial attraction for each other is seeing the beauty in their racial differences! Since, all persons are initially attracted to another by the positive feeling they feel about the others physical appearance! But, this couple is paying a high and dangerous price for following their hearts and Regina's mom spoke the truth when she said it would not be much different in New York, (just a little less overt).

I'm glad this story is brutally frank in facing the racism of interracial dating, no since in glossing over it. Racism is still brutal today but, more closeted, that doesn't remove its damage. And its brutality was huge back in 1971 when this story takes place. To pretend racism is not a strong obstacle would degrade the value of whatever relationship Regina and Alan might evolve to.

I have to wonder if Regina experiencing all this hate and rape of her self esteem worth it; i mean how necessary is it for her to be with the White boy Alan? She is drawn to his looks which are his racial features and that is okay because we are all part of the variant garden God purposely created, so difference is an enjoy! If I were Regina in the very racist climate she's in I would be very suspicious of this white boy Alan Bosley too open offer of friendship. And inviting her to sit at the table with only boys, mostly white, I would as a black girl be afraid he's setting her up for a gang rape, since raping black girls is a common sport in the South.

I hope that they don't get themselves killed. Allan's father is such an ass and I hope that he gets stomped on. I loved the update, and I really wish that Regina would keep her nose out of his relationship with his dad. The man beat Allan, she needs to leave well enough alone before his father kills him.
