Title: Chapter 43: Shine - Epilogue

Onimosity...I've been reluctant to leave my review...not because it wasn't as amazing as it always is...just felt like that I could hold onto them just little bit longer...it has been a such thrill ride from start to finish...I've lived these characters...become so engrossed into their lives it's almost embarrassing to admit how much they've touched me...yes, your characters were fascinating and flawed like the rest of us...yes, you've presented a tale of an implausible yet unique story of true love...but it was you, girl, who brought forth those emotions...you bared your soul to us...pulled us into the pages of your novel and never let us go...you've made ME cheer for, cry with, worry about, ponder, and yes FEEL these characters...for a small space of time...I was a part of their world...I got to live vicariously one of the greatest love stories ever told...and for that...you are deserving of my praise...you are deserving of all the kudos that your heart can stand...you've brought me along on this incredible journey to experience love in its purest forms...we all have our own ideas of what love entails...you've allowed me to think outside the box...live upon the edge...root for the unrootable...hope for the impossible when it looked like all hope was lost...and teach me one of the greatest lessons there is to learn...that love is indiscriminate...it shows no favors for sinners nor saints...it just is...give yourself a well-deserved pat on the back for that...you have become quite frankly one of my favorite authors...pubished or not...bravo to you girl!!!!

I look forward to more adventures of Nikolai and his Sunshine...who showed me the meaning of true love and I also loved the other characters you've created in that wonderfully fervently creative mind of yours...let me just end by saying...thank YOU for sharing your gift...it was much appreciated by this reader...look forward to seeing more of your work...

Title: Chapter 40: I'm Gonna Get Up...

Guess I'm late to game...been sick as a dog last night and tonight...but after reading the latest chapter...how could I not review...

So Sergei has deemed himself judge, jury, and executioner...how arrogant and foolhardy of him to assume that he knows what's best for Sunshine and who is deserving of her love...he says that he knows her...he says that what he's doing is for the best...for whom...her...him...his choosing to 'set her free' by destroying her heart is a concept I cannot wrap my mind around...and the level of disregard he has for his own brother is astounding...does he care nothing for Anatoly at all...again...he's making assumptions that Anatoly will land on his feet after all of this...is he crazy...how is he so sure that this one foolhardy act will not mean the end not only for Nikolai and himself...but not his own brother...says a lot for family loyalty, doesn't it...he has not only sealed his own fate...but effectively his brother's as well...

The building crescendo to the final errant shot was remarkable...like hearing the final movement in a well-crafted symphony...I was drawn into that little tiny room...watching the interplay between to the two principals...my heart pounding as the excitement and anticipation built up...and Sunny walking in at the end of it all...genius...just pure genius...I don't even want to contemplate what will be the aftermath...I'm almost afraid to read what has transpired...whose world has turned black...or could it be all three...did that bullet end Sunny's life...and with her death...did the blackness return never to be banished for Nikolai...and in his madness and grief...did the world turn black for Sergei at the hands of Nikolai...that was one whopper of a cliff-hanger...

I think I'm going have to join you and the Muse...but I think I'm going to need something stronger...so until next time...I'll be sitting at the bar...drowning my sorrows...sublime as always...in the words of Lestat the Vampire..."Give me more!!!"

Title: Chapter 9: Let the Wind Blow through Your Heart Part 2

I just had to chime in on this one...

I absolutely heart these characters...

Sunny...so innocent...yet the circumstances of life have forced her to grow up far too soon...she's mature, brave, and intelligent...all brought about due to sheer necessity...I know that it would be so easy for her to resent Nikki at some point in time (she probably will IMHO)...but she's also intrigued by him...and oh so attracted to him...can she retain her independence but still allow him into her heart...or will her eyes be opened more to the harsh realities of his brutal existence...

Nicolai...I like that he seems to be growing in the sense that he's practicing something that I don't believe was ever in his vocabulary pre-Sunny...patience...the type of lifestyle he leads doesn't lend itself to him trusting anyone...his very survival depends on it...yet, here's this girl that's taking his heart by storm with her innocence and vulnerability...can he learn to truly trust another...or will he smother her and do the one thing he promised himself he wouldn't do...destroy her 'lightness'...I want to root for him...I really do...but dude has some serious control, anger, and possessiveness issues...I would hate for Sunny to get caught up in his wrath if she someday, somehow 'crossed' him...can a man who cannot trust find love and peace...can't wait to read if it is possible...

Sergei...he's really sweet...but he's playing a dangerous game...hope he doesn't let his growing feelings for Sunny cost him...knowing Nikki...his life...she's forbidden fruit as of now and something tells me the more time she spends with Nik...the more deadly the situation will become for Sergei...leave Nikki's 'woman' alone would be my sage advice to him...not because he doesn't deserve someone like Sunny...but Nik's not to be messed with...

Pops is a lost cause...any 'father' who would allow his barely legal daughter to whore herself out to pay off his debts is subhuman...good Sunny had the foresight to remove Benji from that unstable environment...thank goodness Jasmine's influence rubbed off on her kids...lawd help them if Pops was the only example of a 'parent' that either of them had...

Anatoly is a hardened criminal...something tells me that Nik better watch his back...is that ambition I smell in the air...something's definitely up with him...and Darla will be right by his side getting her 'revenge' on Nik if given half the chance...

Great story...I hope your muse sticks around for a long while...love it...can't wait for more...

Title: Chapter 11: With your child's eyes ... You are more than you seem

Whoa...Nikolai...not Nikki...was downright scary in this update...I believe he truly does love Sunny...which may or may not be a good thing for her...his type of love involves possession...obsession...manipulation...blind jealousy...and yes rage...it is always simmering right there underneath the surface...he will do anything he has to do to keep her with him...for always...I don't believe for a minute he has any intention whatsoever to ever release her...deal or no deal...he says he trusts her...but he cannot trust...not even his beloved...in his twisted way...he believes he is protecting her...when in reality the one she really needs protection from is him...his is a possessive love...life has taught him to hold on tight no matter what to what belongs to you...and it may be his own undoing...he tries to shield her from the dark side of his nature...but the longer she spends time around him...she is seeing evidence of dark Nik...he has to learn that Sunshine is not his to possess...she is her own person...he has no idea what healthy love looks like...and if he keeps it up...he's going to suffocate her...that's why he seized the opportunity to prey upon Pops...Nikolai is a studier of human nature...it's like he's omnificent...he sees everything...he knows Jacob's greatest vice is his gambling addiction...so he uses it to his advantage to hold onto Sunny...

And Sergei better be very careful...like I said...Nik sees everything...he will not stand for Sergei pushing up on his 'woman'...I fear for him more than I do for Sunny...she's a beautiful bird trapped in a gilded cage...Nikolai's prisoner of love...I love how she reminded Nikolai that she's essentially still a child...who should be having fun and looking forward to the rest of her life like any normal teenager should be doing...

Great casting of Herschel, BTW, I love Steve Buscemi...

Uh-oh, I smell trouble...Darla...just Darla...and Pops...interesting twist...

Great update as always...excellent work...and what a e-page turner...

Title: Chapter 13: You know I tell the truth... We are just the same

Okay, Sergei is playing with fire now...and Nikolai's is so playing him...but I just have this feeling that he knows...and sorry the say, but Sergei's about to get himself offed over some one-sided feelings...to Sunny...he's a very dear and sweet FRIEND...at no point has she ever given him reason to believe that she feels anything more for him than friendship...she's a compassionate person by nature...she strives to make the others around her happier...but she has never led him on to believe they will ever share any more than a friendship....I feel for Sergei...I really do...but he's skating on some very thin ice where Nikolai and Sunny are concerned...

Nikolai still has a ways to go...but he's at least trying...he's in love with Sunny...I have no doubt about that...and I think I can safely say that being with him is not mere obligation for Sunshine...she's falling for him too...it's just so complicated and not the basis for what one would think of as a sound foundation for a loving and lasting relationship...I really don't think that either one will be able to walk away from their time together unscathed...and unlikely romance between two people that are worlds apart...

Jacob is such a disappointment...I have just had about enough of him...always looking to place the blame for his and his family's predicament on others...when is he ever going to man up...admit he has a problem and just do something proactive about said problem...reducing his kind-hearted daughter to tears because he placed her in this impossible situation certainly did little to endear him to me...being a dreamer when one is young is okay, I guess...but Jacob's a grown arse man and should no better...

Great update as always...looking forward to more...still so skerred for poor misguided Sergei...

Title: Chapter 15: I can feel everything you do...Hear everything you say

I love your spirit... and this story...on to my review...

Okay...Sergei has lost ALL perspective...he still doesn't realize that he is and probably will always be in the FRIEND zone with Sunny...has he ever considered that Sunny might be developing real feelings for Nikolai...that she is not with him out mere obligation...just maybe...maybe she's with him because she wants to be...Nikolai has never treated her unkind...he looks after her every need...he is not an abusive monster with her...yet Sergei refuses to heed his own brother's (I'm loving Anatoly btw now) warning about letting his wayward emotions rule his actions...emotions that are dangerous with a man like Nikolai...it's like he has a death wish now...he knows that Nikolai is watching him...them...closely...so very closely...and if he loves or cares for Sunny as much as he claims...shouldn't he at least be fearful of the possible consequences to her if he sets Nikolai off...Nik is not a stupid man...in fact...he's very astute...observant...possessive...jealous...dangerous...and in love...a lethal combination if there ever was one...Sergei will not be warned again...it's almost pathetically easy how Nikolai could one day make him 'disappear' from their lives...my advice to him would be to let it go...his fantasy of him and Sunny riding off into the sunset...go to school...better your life...get away from the underbelly of society and make something of yourself for you...you are indeed 'worth' it...

Nikolai is in deep with Sunny...he's totally committed to keeping her to his side...by any means necessary...for her sake...I hope she's not 'playing' him...for I fear the consequences of that...the near-panic he felt when he lost sight of her in the open market...he loves her so much...she has his heart...and a man like Nikolai's heart should never be trifled with...yeah, even sinners have heart...I know that he's the 'bad' guy in the story...but I can't help it...I'm so rooting for him...Sunshine makes him a better person...she's good for him and he's surprise, surprise...is good for her...he can be a better man as long as he has his 'ray of light' in his life...his Sunshine...please, Sunny, don't let him down...

I'm glad that Jacob is finally serious about getting the real help that he needs...amazing what a little beating and some straight talk can do to change a disposition...but uh-oh, Darla...just Darla...I can hear the wheels turning in that crazy heifer's head...she's finally found a way to exact 'revenge' on Nikolai using Jacob as her pigeon...silly rabbit...doesn't she know tricks are for kids...I see another death warrant is about to be signed...

Superb update as always...can't wait to read more...you're rocking this story!!!!

Title: Chapter 37: I'll Send You My Best Part 2

I stayed up late last night so I could read the latest update...girl, I have to be up every morning at 4:30 in the a.m. to get ready for work...but this story is so worth the sacrifice...now on to my review...

I'm getting that uneasy feeling again...don't know why...but the time for answers is fast approaching...I loved how both Sunny and Nikolai didn't want to let go the calm before the storm...reveling in just loving each other and being together...but knowing a dark cloud hovers off in the distance that could destroy it all...I'm so worried now if Sunny can really handle all that Nikolai has to tell her and will either of them have the strength to let the other go if she can't...this is a real conundrum...I don't know if my poor heart can take it if she can't...

And Stanislavsky's impending visit really has me worried...what is so important that he would leave the old country to come all the way to America to see specifically Sunny...will he allow Nikolai to get out the business...will Nikolai even want to give up that part of his life...he knows nothing else...I'm on pins and needles about what happens when Stanislavsky comes...

I'm going to keep a box of tissues handy in case things don't go the way I wish...but either way...it has been one heck of journey...I love this couple...wish them all the happiness that they each deserve...but I have to keep reminding myself this is a dark fic...and Nikolai is a very complicated man who has led a less than savory life...

Looking forward to the next update...partly in anticipation...partly in dread...great story...keep up the good work...

Title: Chapter 19: Even When You're Miles Away Part 1

Back in town and finally caught up with this story...

The duality in which you write the character of Nikolai is quite stunning at times...his generosity...the way he loves Sunny is both heartwarming and frightening at the same time...it not just that he wants to love her...make her his...at times I truly believe he wants to possess her...make all of her goodness and light a part of him...yet he is a very dark character...make no mistake about that...he will kill, maim, manipulate, and yes, destroy to keep her in his life...he wants to lock her away from the rest of the world...to bring her out only for himself...she abates the darkness that dwells within him...and sometimes I get the feeling that Nikolai hates that darkness...he sees the ugliness and loneliness of it...so he clings to her evermore in an effort to stave it off...now, he wants a future with her beyond the five years of their agreement...he's invisioning marriage...kids...the whole nine yards...but what about Sunshine...can she freely be a part of his dark world...expose her future children to those type of dangers...always wondering if he will come back or if one of Nikolai's many enemies will use her or her child as retribution against Nikki...all her life Sunshine has sacrificed so much in the name of love...my question is...what will he be willing to sacrifice to have the future he wants with her...will there ever come a time when he can give up 'the life'...

I like how you're keeping us guessing from chapter to chapter the nature of Sunny's true feelings for Nikolai...does she really love him...can someone who is filled with so much goodness and light really fall in love with someone so dark...or is she just simply biding her time...making the best of a horrific situation by serving her sentence with him but looking forward to the day when she will finally be set free...is this why Nikolai does not want her to know the true depths of his own feelings for her...why he knows now is not the right time to ask her to be his wife...will there ever come a 'right' time...or does he already realize that he's living on borrowed time...love your take on this modern retelling of Beauty and the Beast...I also like how you're giving each of the characters an introspective look at the situation and the motivation for their actions...that is...all except Sunshine...we're catching glimpses of her through her interactions with the other characters and flashback scenes of her childhood...but we never really get to hear Sunny's 'voice'...hmmm, interesting...and quite genius storytelling...

Jacob Jones...I'm so over him I could scream...he's a hopeless, selfishly weak bastard...IMHO...he's a sight more darker than Nikolai could ever dream to be...he's lost his children yet it still hasn't woken his ass up...still chasing the next big score...always trying to 'fix' what he keeps breaking with his own foolish actions...he does not love Sunny...nor Benji...and quite possibly himself...what Jasmine ever saw in the worthless bum I'll never know...I still don't understand why Sunny has sacrificed her life and dreams for him...I know she did it in part to protect her little brother...but Jetta gave her some sage advice...she can't keep taking his problems on her slender shoulders and keep hoping that he'll change his ways...he doesn't want to change...so it's time for her to let that soldier fall on his own sword...

Onimosity...this is such a wonderful, thought-provoking and plain 'ol addictive masterpiece...I love the twists and turns and the way you keep me guessing...can't wait for the next update....whenever we get it, lol...but I'll keep reading and reviewing for as long as you keep churning them out...happy holidays!!!!

Title: Chapter 20: Even When You're Miles Away Part 2

Jacob makes my teeth tired...when is he ever going to accept responsiblity for his own actions and his family's predicament...it is only because Jasmine raised such a kind-hearted daughter like Sunny that his pathetic butt is still alive...because if there was no Sunshine...then Nikolai would have most assuredly have iced that fool a long time ago...and it's only because of his feelings for Sunny and not wanting to hurt her by killing her father that Nikolai lets the dummy breathe...and trusting somebody named Peanut to help you get the 'big score'...well, he's not too bright either...didn't that fool con him out of money at the beginning of this story...he's sick...sick...sick...and I have no more sympathy for him...he's not trying to 'save' Sunny...he gambles because he's an inherently weak soul and has a sickness that he cannot control and therefore cannot stop...he continues to play into Nikolai's hands and digs himself into a deeper hole...and not only has he already lost his son...but his sweet, loving daughter has become disillusioned with him...yet...he cannot stop gambling...

I think Nikolai harbors a lot of bitterness in his soul towards his parents...they turned their backs on him when he needed them the most...I do believe this in part contributes to the darkness within him...loved that Sunny tried to convince him to make amends with them...but I already knew that he wouldn't...seems Nik is the type of person that harbors grudges for life...cross him and he never forgets or forgives...very scary when you think about it...I like how you never let us forget that Nikolai is this dark, deeply flawed character (leaving the seed money to encourage Jacob to continue gambling after his stint in rehab...arranging the raid so that Sunny could witness that her father still hasn't stop gambling)...yes, very dark indeed...yet you allow us to a glimpse of another part of his character that is gentle and loving albeit extremely jealous and possessive when he is with Sunny...

So Darla has been dismissed...but she's still keeping in contact with Jacob...she's not as street smart as she thinks she is...and if she really values her life...she'll mind her own business in Podunk...and stay the heck out of Nikolai's...

Great update as always...looking forward to more...

Title: Chapter 26: Gotta Make My Own Way

This update is breaking my heart all over again...I know the separation is just and so very necessary...but I can't bear to read of them longing for each other so...yet not being able to be together...trust is such a fragile thing...and loyalty is priceless...yet Nikolai violated Sunny trust in him by doing what he did...and this act of disloyalty has cost them both...I'm just so incredibly...sad...just sad I tell you...

The darkness that Nikolai battles every moment of his life is quite frightening...but he does it because he knows that he can't allow it to consume him if ever wants to have another chance with his Sunshine...and that's what she is...his...every bit as much as he is hers...they make each other better than they ever dreamt they could be...

I'm at a loss at how he can ever make what he did 'right' for her...he has known all along how much Jacob's destructive addictions have hurt Sunny...yet he facilitated his ability to continue to go on hurting her infinitely...it really struck me when Sunny mentioned to Jetta how people who claimed to love her caused her the greatest pain...and it's so true...first Jacob...now Nikki...for the first time since her mother...Sunny had someone in her life that she thought loved her simply just for her...not because of what she brought into their lives...yet Nikolai destroyed her security in love...oh, I just wanna cry now...I hurt so much for them both...

So Nikolai reassigned Sergei...got his own brother to 'teach him a lesson'...yet he still is arrogant enough to still have hope that he has a chance with Sunny...still playing a very dangerous game...knowing how thin of a thread he's hanging on...going out on 'dates' with her...mouthing off to Nikki...he really is obtuse...guess he figures if he hangs around long enough he'll wear Sunny down and get out of the friend zone...he keeps this up and he might not live long enough to enjoy the fruits of his labors...

This is really a heartwrenching, emotionally complex tale...I absolutely love it...I sometimes get scared to read on...but I'm almost compelled to forge on...that's praise to your prowess as a writer...thank you so much for sharing...can't wait to read more...the good, the bad, and the ugly...

Title: Chapter 27: Today Is a New Day

Progress, Nikolai...sweet progress...can you feel the grin radiating from my fingertips!!!

I heart this chapter...after reading about the heartbreak...angst...and overwhelming sadness...I really didn't know how much more of this I could take...but this chapter gave me something I truly didn't feel in the last few updates...hope...I always believed that these two people loved each other...just couldn't see how they could make their way back to each other...now I hope...

It is a testament to the love that Sunny has for Nikolai that she didn't in all honesty see what Sergei was so blatantly showing he felt for her...now she sees the truth...and I'm so glad that the feelings aren't returned...at least not in a romantic sense...yes, she will always consider him to be her friend...but never anything more...but Sunny is a true friend...and she looked out for him by making sure that he wouldn't be hurt by Nikki because she knows her man...and Nikolai doesn't do sharing for no matter innocent the situation may be...Sergei will do well to take what Sunny said about her feelings for him into advisement...and stop trying to push for more when there's no chance for more...

I'm glad that Sunny is finally getting to experience just being young and carefree...doing age-appropriate things with people her own age...but Sunshine is mature beyond her tender years...and she has a very old and wise soul...she's light-years ahead of the younger crowd she hangs with...and more compatible with the maturity of Nikolai...they are made for each other...

They are simply combustible...thank goodness for that delivery guy because no telling what would have gone down in that kitchen...glad she has agreed to date Nikolai...do normal things like any other couple...I'm looking forward to the courtship of Sunshine by Nikolai...I also loves that Nikolai has learned from his mistakes...he doesn't lie to her anymore...no matter how small...and besides he just can't help himself...she has brought the man...the beast...down to his knees...she is his life...his heart...his soul...

Thanks for making me smile this Saturday morning, Onimosity...can't wait to read more...love this story!!!!

Title: Chapter 28: Different From Tomorrow You'll See

For a bridge chapter...I found it highly enlightening...

I love the flashback scenes of Jasmine/young Sunny...it adds so much depth, warmth, and insight to the story...I really appreciate those rare moments...Jasmine was really a wise sage...and she taught her daughter well in the short time she had with her...

This chapter actually gives me more hope that Sunshine and Nikolai can weather this storm together...not saying it will be easy in the least...but they can do it...I love that Sunny is now confronting/asking questions about exactly what Nikolai is/does...after all he is asking her to take a huge leap of faith on him by sharing her life with him...that means ALL aspects of his life...one should always enter any relationship with your eyes wide open...not with eyes wide shut...thusfar, Nikolai has diligently shielded her from his dark, stark world...but she needs to know everything...not just the sanitized version he has allowed her to see which was easy for her when she could envision a life without Nikolai...now, feelings have deepened...and they are both at a crossroad...he is a very dangerous man who lives in a dark and often unforgiving world...though he has humbled himself to reveal the depth of the love he has for her...he still has not show her the 'real' Nikolai...his true self...and will there ever be a time when he can leave that life behind for the woman who holds his heart...or will Sunshine have to compromise her principles to live within his world...looking blindly away from what/who he is...he is right...he is not the sum total of that life...but it remains a very important part of his makeup...will he get over his fear of losing her completely from his life to reveal what exactly he is...or will he trust her enough to love him as he really is...this is such a complicated tale...

I see Sergei isn't as dense as I thought he once was...he does realize that Sunny is not and probably will not be as 'free' of Nikolai as she claims to be...yet, I do not trust him...and I see him biding his time and then doing something to set things to a head...his conversation with Jil at the karoake bar was very revealing...and his obsession with Sunshine continues...

Can't wait to read more...you're killing this story as usual...hurry back...love this story...thanks for sharing!!!

Title: Chapter 29: I'll Be High Flyin'

Late with my review...work's been kicking my bee-hind!!!

Sorry that you're not feeling well...get plenty of rest and let your body get its strength back...will still be here when you're well enough to gift us again with another chapter...

On to my review...I really like to commend you on your excellent use of the flashback sequences to give us insight into your characters...young Nikolai...I can almost picture him imprisoned for a crime he is innocent of and being forced to adapt to the harsh conditions and realities of prison life...being taken under the wings of a ruthless gangster ino order to survive his precarious predicament...beholden to him for life for his act of 'kindness'...I think that Nikolai has always been looking for acceptance and family...and many of the choices he has made in life are a direct result of him seeking it...first from his parents...and when they and his so-called 'friends' turned on him...he had no one and nothing until Stanislavsky took an interest in him...and he became part of a 'family' and had that sense of belonging that we all seek...and his earlier experiences taught him a valuable lesson...not to trust and open himself up to be hurt...a lesson that he will have to unlearn if he wants to truly invite Sunny into his life completely...though Nikolai is essentially a 'bad' man...he is one of the most romantic and strangely noble men I had the pleasure of reading about...and his devotion and love for his Sunshine is inspiring and spell-binding...I heart him and her...

I found myself growing more hopeful as I read along...but still afraid to trust in that hope...because the problems that separate Nikolai and Sunny still exist...though they long for each other desperately...I loved the added touch of Nikki's new tattoo and Sunshine keeping his picture on her bedroom nightstand...so his face is the first one she sees when she wakes in the morning and the last one she see when goes to sleep at night...that thrilled me so...I'm also glad that Sunny is still holding firm on her need to know the real Nikolai...and retaining her own independence...it wouldn't be them if their problems were solved with one romp in the bed...they have always been good together in that respect...Nikolai is correct...their love is not a fairytale version...but love each other they do...I can't wait until when Sunny's heart is free enough to admit it to both herself and him openly without reservations...

Slow yet steady progress...but still quite a ways to go...but still I hope for the best...I love this couple...and I'm so rooting for them to make it together on the other side...

Great job, Onimosity...well done indeed...

Title: Chapter 31: By The Time You Come Round to Me

Okay, I had this beautiful review...and wouldn't you know my computer ate it like it was its last meal...am I wrong to state that I'm not all that upset that you're snowbound...unfortunate for you and your muse...but great for us...yay...on to my review...again...

Why do I get the uneasy feeling that I'm being lulled into a false sense of security that my couple will make it only to have the other shoe drop and my heart ripped to shreds unexpectedly...I know that the good times can't/probably won't continue indefinitely...Nikolai though he's trying isn't really answering the hard questions and Sunny is no longer content to accept the easy answers...why do I get the feeling that it may not be enough for her...yes, they do bounce very well...they's freaks like that...but then again...that was never their problem...they've always communicated very well that way...it gets dicey when they are vertical...I love Jetta's talk to Sunny...Sunshine's in love...she knows it...Nikolai knows it...heck, Jetta knows it...yet something keeps holding her back from following her heart...I love the times that Nikolai and Sunny just spend together...how they savor their time together as if they know they are somehow living on borrowed time...I hope I'm not right...because it will break my heart as it will theirs...I know that at some point...something will have to give...

I got a hoot out of drunk Anatoly and Nikolai...I love how Nik knows that Sunshine is 'the one'...and though he knows he doesn't deserve her...he needs her in his life...oh, to be loved like that...too bad that sad-sack brother of his, Sergei...can't buy a clue...

Sergei...he really is inside my last nerve now...how dare he try to scare Jil off from taking an interest in Sunny under the guise of 'protecting' her...liar...he's obsessed with her...at first, I actually felt quite sorry for him...now, I see him as the most unsympathetic and pathetic character...all the years he thinks he's 'known' Sunny...he doesn't know her at all...and he doesn't take her feelings into account...he dismisses her very genuine feelings for Nikolai...because to accept the truth....would mean he has to come back from the land of delusion he now resides in...she sees him as only a friend...always...like Bonnie Raitt said...'I can't make you love me if you don't'...his obsession is beginning to border on frightening...and I believe he might prescribe to the philosophy of 'if I can't have her...nobody will'...nothing good can come from it...

Great update as always...sorry I haven't left a review in a few chapters...but well, work's been a 'beast' to me...love this story, girl...though I get excited with each new update...I get just as frightened to read it...but talent like yours is worth the effort...can't wait for more...you and your muse grab a cup of hot chocolate and hurry back to gift us more of this enthralling story...

Title: Chapter 32: Good Luck With Your Path

Nikolai nearly broke my heart in this chapter...his utter desperation...the level of love he has for his Sunshine is incomprehensible...and then finally his reluctant acceptance that he can not control her...but really, he wouldn't love her the way he does if he could...it's all part of the woman that he loves, isn't it...I agree...Sunny needs to declare her love for him back before she goes...Nikolai needs to hear those words...I'm so very afraid for them now...I just keep getting this queasy feeling that all will not go well in the Sudan...though it is for a very noble cause...I just don't like Sunny being that exposed to the very real dangers of the world like that...what is it they say...no good deed goes unpunished...the intensity of that lovemaking scene has me fearing that it will be the memory of that time together that will have to substain them both for a long while...

I love Sunny and Benji interactions...he brings normalcy to her life...a sense of purpose to it...she's been the only true parent that young man has had for the entirety of his life...I loved that Sunny shared that part of her life with Nikolai...he never having that kind of experience with his own family...I love 'patriartrical' Benjamin also...asking Nikolai 'intentions' towards his sister...wonder how Sunny would have reacted if she had allowed Nikolai to answer that as honestly as he wants to...I think Benji approves of Sunny's choice of 'more than a boyfriend'...I loved the glimpse of the family that could be...time for Nikolai to start answering those questions that Sunshine needs the answers to...time for her to put the man out of his misery and tell him what he needs to hear...three simple words...yet so profound....

I love this story...true love like this is truly so fragile and I fear that it is not meant to be to end happily-ever-after...yet still I hope...great update...keep 'em coming...

I really don't have a preference for where the translations come at...I feel that I have come to know the character of Nikolai so I can pretty much guess what he's saying to her...but I can't wait until he translates those poetic words to his Sunny so she can understand the beauty that is this man's love for her...

Title: Chapter 38: But It Wasn't Built to Last

The other shoe has finally dropped...I knew it was coming...but it doesn't change the impact of it...

Look, I know there is no way to try to justify or reconcile who Nikolai is or the things he's done...he is who/what he is...so I won't even try...I know he's a sociapath...I know he's a control freak...I know that he is cunning and manipulative...as brutal as he is loving...I know that if I had to choose someone for Sunshine to fall in love with...he would definitely be the low man on the totem pole...but this much I do know...that man loves her true in the purest sense of the word...I mean really loves her...he loves her completely and in this world...that's a rare thing to ever discover...true love...I don't seek approval or justification for liking this character or rooting for him...I just do...I'm reminded of a line from The Color Purple..."yes, even sinners have souls..."

Oh, how my heart weeps for Sunny...now her heart and mind are warring with each other...her logical self tells her that she should cut her losses and move on...the Nikki of her dreams is but a mere aberration...conjured up by her foolish heart...but her heart...the heart of a woman deeply in love with her man...refuses to give up and give in...it clings to the hope that the Nikolai that she has come to know is the 'real' thing...she's coming to learn enough tough lesson in life...you don't choose love...it chooses you...she might even find the strength and courage to walk away from him and the life they've shared...but she will also have to leave a huge piece of her heart behind with him for always...I weep for them both...

Sergei...I really can't stand now...like Darla did all those months ago when she disclosed her life with Nikolai pre-Sunny...what he told her was not done for purely altruistic reasons...or with the idea of 'saving' her...he's behaving like a spoilt brat who had his cookies stolen from him...he had to know deep down that she would never be 'his'...so he hit back and took her heart's desire away from her...unlike Nikolai who is admittedly selfish, he had no qualms about destroying her dreams if it meant blackening Nikolai in her eyes...he doesn't care at all about dimming the light in her eyes and breaking her spirit...'he can't have her...no one will..."...he's playing his role as Shakespeare's Iago masterfully...the ugly head of the beast is rearing his jealous head...he makes me ill...

Well, Onimosity...you've done it again...now I'm heartbroken once again...but girl, this 'bridger' sure had enough bite and meat in it to have me salivating for more...can't wait until the next update...

Title: Chapter 39: Or We Might Take it Differently

Looks like Sergei is about to write a check his ass can't cash...what in the world is he thinking...one...he has the nerve to step to Nikolai...the boss with a gun pointed and ready to use it...two...does he care nothing about his own brother, Anatoly...who is not only Nikolai's top lieutenant...but his close friend too...and three...so this is how he decides to 'save' Sunny...his supposed 'friend'....by killing the man that she loves in cold blood...and now Nikolai can no longer ignore him as he had done so many years out of respect for both Anatoly and Sunny...no matter what the outcome...it cannot and will not end well...I knew that fool was just biding his time...and this 'solution' of his has started a chain of events that can not be halted...and he has effectively signed his own death warrant...I'm speechless at this turn of events...

So the reason for Stanislavsky's visit to America has been effectively answered...I love the story he told to Sunny of Nikolai's prison experience...and how and why the 'softness' in him was extinguished...she had to know that we are the sum total of our experiences...he was not making excuses for what Nikolai had to become/is...but perhaps gaining understanding and clarity for the need to adapt to your environment...she needed to hear that...he gave her much to ponder, I think...

And Gloria making a pass at Nikolai certainly brought out Sunny's possessive side, didn't it...in her mind and heart...Nikolai will always be 'hers'...warts and all...I like that she doesn't want to be shut out of any part of his life...though he might feel embarrassment and shame for the things that he does and has done...he needs to be honest with her always...that is 'them'...and Sunny has to be strong enough to hear them but still be able to love him in spite of it if she wants him in her life...

Now the meeting between Stanislavsky and the other bosses is very intriguing...wonder what his proposal was for Nikolai's new role in the organization...I'm hoping that he will allow him to be free of it...but I don't want to get too hopeful...but we'll see...

As always...you keep this reader on her feet with all the twists and turns in this story...and I can never get enough of it...can't wait to see what happens next...thanks so much for the wonderful update...

Title: Chapter 4: Fck me pumps

So glad to see this story back...I really missed it...so the games have begun...and Leslie is hellbent on having her 'revenge'...doesn't she that revenge is a dish best served cold...and she's going to have to be stone cold hard to pull this seduction as a means of revenge off and coming out unscathed...she's so sure that her emotions won't get involved...that what she's setting out to do is just...but what do they always say about the best laid plans...Leslie's playing with fire and about to get burned...looking forward to more...

Author's Response: Thank you so much for the review ^.^ And the thing is, Leslie doesnt quite get it. She just goes by the rules and expects perfect results because she is going by the rules. Little does Leslie know that things dont always turn out the way you want them to be.

Title: Chapter 3: Misery loves company…not!

Okay...I already love this story...right now...I don't like Leslie very much...no matter if she thinks she deserved being made partner...I can not get with her plan to deliberately set out to hurt another...and something tells me that there's more to Arden than is surface deep...Lola's right...it's a dangerous game to play...playing with someone's emotions...and the person who might end up paying the piper might be yourself...

Such an intriguing idea...I know it's wrong...but I so look forward to what happens next...please update soon...

Author's Response:

Title: Chapter 1: Chapter 1

This was very good...I'm intrigued...what a strange world you've crafted...Roxannne...brutally attacked...why do vampires and demon want to possess virgins...the last part of the chapter threw me off a bit...but I'm sure you'll explain later what that was about...also...

I can't to wait to see what happens next...great start...I'm in...

Author's Response: Thank you very much! I hope I don't disappoint you.

Title: Chapter 8: Chapter 8

Roxi's attitude about Melissa and Parker's babies seemed to be a little 'off' from the last chapter...I mean...she burst into action to make sure that Parker was there to witness the birth of his cubs...now, it's like...oh, well...I've done my good deed for the day...so don't bother me anymore...that was kinda of jarring...

I know that Roxi is meant for Mod as you've explained...but she seems more suited for Leonardo...I know he's a vampire and all...but I do love their banter...and he is surprisely quite 'kind' to her at times...I know that's hard to make sense of because he's teasing her unmercilessly or smirking at her...but she seems to have a lot of 'fire' with him chemistry-wise...and her and Mod seem so 'awkward' to say the least...and what's with his intense look at her that frightened her so...though I have an idea...but still...they're not gelling for me as of yet...

Interesting update...until next time...

Author's Response:

Thank you so much for your honesty!

At some point I think I'll have to make that transition a bit smoother. I know it's weird how she goes from being really excited to really awkward.

Roxi's relationships with Leo and Mod go through a lot of changes later in the story. Lots of crazy, crazy stuff happens. You'll love it. I know it seems like Mod and Roxi will never get together but they will. Actually, I probably should have kept that a secret. Oh well. Lol

Title: Chapter 11: Chapter 11

Second time trying to review...first one went down in a flame of glory...anywho...okay, Darling...I've just have to make a case for my boy Leo here to win Roxi's heart...I know he isn't even supposed to be in the running...but I absolutely heart him...so what...he made her his blood slave...hello, he's a vampire...a man has needs and all, lol...but anyway...he could have done worse...but could it be...is it even possible...but methinks Leo is falling in love with Roxi...I loved how he told her he never wanted to hurt her...and he showed true integrity when he didn't make that stupid promise of 'never' hurting her...because it's true....'tis a fact of life that sometimes we hurt the ones we love the most...could that be a bit of foreshadowing that I'm reading here...I know Mod hasn't had a real chance to get 'in the game' so the speak...but I'm rooting for my boy anyway...even though I know he 'isn't the one for Roxi'...I think Leo admires Roxi's moxie...hey, I made a funny didn't I...so sad that he wasn't her first...but hope reigns supreme...I know I'm being obstinate about this...but I want what I want...Leo and Roxi, lol...

Hmmm, wondering who that could be...was it Mod that Roxi heard when Leo left her in the middle of nowhere...couldn't think of anyone else besides maybe Melissa's mother than would garner such a reaction from Roxi that would leave her wanting to give the business to Leo when she gets home...

I'm hoping for another update this weekend...hope you have a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend too...love this story...can't wait to see what happens next...

Author's Response:

Long review! I like these!

About Leo: I totally know what you mean. Honestly, Leo is my favorite character so I have a soft spot for him too. You just won't be able to tell for a long, long time. And, yes, the fact that he won't promise not to hurt her is a bit of foreshadowing so stay tuned!

About Mod: You'll be seeing more of him. I promise.

About updating again Memorial Day weekend: ...my calendar broke? Seriously, I felt kind of guilty about that but I was really caught up hanging with friends and family.

Thank you so much for reviewing! I'm really glad you like the story!

Title: Chapter 10: Chapter 10

Roxi and Leo's relationship is strange to say the least...I know you keep reminding us that she is for Mod...that I still don't 'get'...but anywho...I was secretly rooting for her and Leo to hook up...but is it going to be Leo who 'deflowers' her...and if so...why isn't Mod objecting...and what exactly was Mod and Leo discussing in that hushed whisper as Roxi was dressing...and Roxi...seems she runs hot and cold for Leo...yes, I understand she's justifiably angry at her forced captivity by Leo...but she really did like him kissing her if she was truly honest with herself...she seems to be both repulsed and excited by Leo...strange indeed...I didn't want this chapter to end here...it was just starting to get very interesting...and then bam...it ends...oh please hurry up and update soon...still liking this story alot.

Author's Response:

All I can say is 'yeah'. You're pretty much right on the money about Roxi when it comes to Leo. I'm glad that you still like this story even when it gets weird.

Thanks for reading and reviewing!

Title: Chapter 3: Chapter 3

First...I love the way you write...the flow of your writing is very good...the imagery is amazing and I can almost see myself in this mystical world alongside Roxanne...though I'd probably be in a rubber room eating play dough by now...everything is just so...bizarre...I'm so confused, lol...half the time I don't know what's going on...yet, it all seems perfectly plausible at the same time that it all makes any sense somehow...

I don't know what to make of Leonardo...I'm so intrigued by him...though I really don't like how he toys with Roxanne sometimes...as if he take some kind of perverse pleasure in confusing her...almost to the point of humiliation...yet in some strange way...he desires her, too...

Now, Roxy...I really like her resilience and fiestiness...she's a better one than me...that's for sure...still very inquisitive in spite of all the 'weirdness' going on around her and happening to her...

Now I want to know more about Mod and the young woman he killed...was Mod in the dream (vision) at the beginning of this story...why would he kill his beloved...and why does a demon appear as an adrogynous girly man with a chip on his shoulder...what is it about Roxanne that made him attack her that way if he believed she is the one he has been dreaming of...is he cursed (being a demon aside)...so many strange happenings going on...

Poor Roxanne...trapped between a rock and a hard place...don't honestly know what's going on...but I'm enjoying the ride all the same...great job...looking forward to unravelling this mystery further...

Author's Response:

I'm glad that you enjoy the story. Leo does get a kick out of messing with Roxy's head but there is PLENTY of time for that later.

I think you have come closer to figuring out Mod than any other reviewers. I don't think you'll be disappointed with the plot twists I have in store. Thank you for reading and and reviewing! Please stay tuned!
