Summary:

Spencer Edwards is a happy bachelor. He’s got a great job, lives in a great penthouse, and thanks to his good genetics, a fair amount of luck where the ladies were concerned. Family was the furthest thing from his mind, but apparently, life had other plans.

His world is turned upside down when his older sister and brother-in-law die suddenly, leaving their two young children in his care. Spencer can barely take care of himself, and he’s not so sure he should be placed in charge of anyone else.

But a light appears at the end of the tunnel when spirited, no-nonsense live-in Nanny Reese Talbot enters their lives. Through ups and downs and self-discovery, Spencer learns just what it takes to be a Family Man.

Title: Chapter 6: V

BEAUTIFUL CHAPTER. ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS. FLAWLESS.

I was so mad at him in the last chapter for being such a cad! No. Asshole.  But now I realize that it wasn't about being a sex fiend or callously ignoring the children...the man is grieving.  Now that he's had a breakthrough of sorts, maybe he'll be what his 'family' needs. Plus, he can't take Reese away from Jennea and Vincent now, he just can't. He doesn't know it yet, but he needs her too.

You've outdone yourself with this update. Cheers to writing at its best.

Summary:

Tiny, muffled footsteps bounded towards me. Faith stood no taller than three feet which I personally thought was petite for a four-year-old. Most of her cashew nut colored skin was covered by the oversized t-shirt she had draped over her shoulders. I giggled at the disheveled state that her dark brown hair was in. The curls hung loosely and frizzy all around her head; her curls extended at least a foot from her head. I briefly was reminded of Huey Freeman from The Boondocks. Some of her features matched mine exactly and some clearly didn’t. One feature was her big, smoky, blue-green eyes that stared up at me with innocence. They seemed to be framed with a few splashes of freckles. She would probably never know how much her eyes haunted me at times.

Sequel to And So They Fall . . Jake and Liandra's story continue.

OH how I wish for an update!  Unfinished Paper Hearts touches something within my soul...I don't know why, but it does. Faith Jay - her mom and dad, deserves to have their story told, continued.  PUHLEEZE, please, pleeeze write again and POST!

More importantly, I pray that you're okay.  At least let us know how you're doing.

Title: Chapter 8: Seven.

He couldn’t sleep hunh?  I bet not.  Learning you’re an instant father can do that to anyone.  Jake, however, has a big heart; he’s in love with his baby-girl already.  Faith is a beautiful little princess.  I can’t wait to see father, daughter…and mother together, permanently.

I loved that Liandra was so straightforward and honest with Jake…telling him about the pregnancy, her struggle with termination, adoption, her nightmares, Amir.  Faith climbing in bed with her mommy to protect her almost had me in tears.  Jake’s relaxed manner wasn’t lost on me either.  His story of determination, survival, his educational achievement, Renee – just flowed from him (I’m willing to bet that that’s the most he’s spoken in four years). How refreshing it is to see them communicating effortlessly with no himming and hawing or bullshit.

It’s as if they were never apart

Title: Chapter 9: Eight.

You wanted a long review so here goes...

I know there’s a natural progression for reconnecting lost love…you’ve gotta establish the characters, develop the storylines, pace the narration but darn-it, I want my couple together now! Immediately. Pronto. LOL.  Oh it’s so wrong that they’re in this state of suspension.  I agree with Jake, he’s missed four years of his baby’s life, he needs to be a father to her, and Liandra deserves the fairytale, the happily ever after.  Sure, we all know that fairytales rarely happen – if ever yet sometimes, every once in a while, dreams you never knew you had come true.

Why am I saying all this?

Because Jake needs to drop that bimbo!  Why is she with him, besides that fact that he’s hot?  From what I can tell, Renee’s into Renee.  Jake was this hot, mysterious drifter who she thinks has this he’s-never-had-anyone-like-me-before vibe happening, and he’ll bow to my every whim.  Jake feels he’s indebted to her father and she keeps him in check by reminding him of that (probably).  No doubt she brags to her friends that he’s her lap-dog whom she uses for great sex and that’s it (I’ll bet he hasn’t touched her since the day he started breathing again).  Thing is, she’ll miss that tall drink of water when he’s gone.

Speaking of which…

After that smoldering kiss, Jake and Liandra should elope. Just…run off and get hitched, worry about everything else later.  No matter how gentle he tries to be, someone will get hurt.  Why return to a hollow existence when your heart has found its home again elsewhere?  Prolonging the evitable and keeping his daughter a secret equates to Jake being ashamed of her (I know that’s not true nor is it his intent but I wanna be bitchy for a moment ‘cause it just isn’t fair).

Ok, soapbox rant over.

Jake and Faith Jay were adorable; he’s in awe of her as he should be. When he had the panic attack, you could tell the man is overwhelmed with love for her, for them (brava for capturing his emotion so vividly).  I love the mini historical moments Liandra shares with him.  And I’m glad she has a wonderful relationship with her mother: Miss Irene.  Taking notes during the sermon was so…Jake.  It’s paramount that father and daughter establish a rapport with one another because Someone’s trying to tell him something.

I hope he’s listening.

Title: Chapter 9: Eight.

My hand shook as I opened the door and saw Jake. It was like the first time I laid eyes on him all over again. His seemingly unmanageable hair was tousled into some sort of structured chaos. The cloudy weather brought out the grey undertone in his blue-green orbs. I took in his outfit; he wore a pair of fitted jeans that had the right amount of sag and a dark green v-neck shirt with a black blazer over his shoulders.

Unintentionally, I bit my lip. I wanted to take this man and give him a second child right now.

LOL!!!  I know you did Li, and he'd be happy to oblige.

When's the next update?  I wanna see more of Jake with his family. Oh and um, six or more pages would be just lovely!  hehehe

Got up this morning, turned on my computer and The Chamber popped up.  Scrolled down to change the skin and what did i see on the Random Fics section...?  Bingo!  Unfinished Paper Hearts!!  It was a melancholy moment...instantly elated to see it and then saddened that it had been so long since the story was updated but most importantly, one of my fav authors has been MIA. Title: Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Damn that was good! REALLY GOOD! Loved it. Loved your technique: the first couple of lines I thought I was reading the synopsis but then I realized ‘no, this is the actual story’, which was quite interesting in-and-of itself.

I’m a hands-teeth-lips woman myself with a size 7.5W too, and one who loves to peruse a man’s features - how those thick thighs fit in a pair of nice jeans - just like....wait a sec...I don’t even her name! LOL

The non-sex, sex scene was juusst right! It was the perfect effect for this too-short non-story story.

FABULOUS.

Author's Response:

Thank you. The character never told me her name.   I appreciate the comment on the sex scene, wasn't sure I did it right.  Thanks again.

Title: Chapter 1: Prologue

Though I’ve never read the novel, I loved the film Pride and Prejudice (2005); Mr. Darcy - wonderfully played by Matthew MacFadyen - is my favorite character.  I’m spellbound by the vernacular, the mannerisms and customs of the period.

Your adaptation is most interesting, even in its infancy.  I’m looking forward to reading how Mr. Darcy and Miss Mary verbally spar with one another, how they match wit in regard to societal status quo, relationships, and love.

Ooo I’m giddy with anticipation! Update soon.

Author's Response: Well, I am not sure how much matching of wits will go on. I've written Mary to be a very gentle and shy character. I imagine her as someone who was doted on by her father and largely sheltered from the world by him. I imagine that this being sheltered is one of her faults. Lord Farthington raised her in this sort of happy bubble, even keeping her somewhat removed from his life's work.  As the story progresses, you'll learn more about New Sussex, Mary's father and her character. I almost fear that I have made Mary too gentle and kind, but she will be shown to have a strength of her own in later chapters that is borne out of hardship.

Title: Chapter 9: Orange Ball of Pain

I can’t even tell you how much I enjoyed this chapter or which scene was my favorite.  I’ve read it three times so far; each time gets better than the next.  Kat’s silence was more audible than her rants; the raw emotion that overflowed from her in the car was so arresting, and genuine.  I felt her pain, felt for her actually. (Awesome job there.)

Each character’s facial expressions and nuances are written very well, making it [the story] great imagery for the reader.  Loved when he carried her down the stairs, and then the moment he felt his baby kick but ultimately, I think my favorite part was when he lay with her, watching over her as she slept.  How could you not fall in love with a man like that?  Snark and all.

Author's Response:

Wow, thank you!  I really enjoyed working on this chapter.  I'm glad Kat's meltdown was true to character and tangible; since we've never seen anything like that on the show, I'm glad I got it right!

The end was my favorite part, too.  That was all Scotty.  He's such a sweetie. :)

Thank you so much for such a thoughtful review!  It means a lot!  More coming soon!

Title: Chapter 1: Standard Bitter Love Song #4

This is good, I like it.  From narrative to dialogue to cast....everything flowed very nicely.  I don't watch Cold Case and with the way you're writing your story, I don't have to.  Your plot structure and the persona of the characters, is descriptive enough.  I love Scotty and Kat as the non-couple couple as well as the parents of a toddler.  Not to mention they're colleagues, law enforcement no less.

Very interesting indeed.

Author's Response:

Wow, thank you so much!  Your encouragement means a lot!  I hope you enjoy the rest of the story!

Title: Chapter 5: It Froze Me

Dang Valens, you just walked away?!  I know this is sexist but…MEN! They can’t handle the truth!  Urgh. That’s all I have to say about that.  LOL How clueless was Scotty? What does he do for a living?  Lol I’m not gonna rag on him too bad, he’s a very sweet guy with a heart of gold.  If I had to get pregnant from a one-night stand, he’d be the only man I’d want to be my baby’s daddy.   Actually, I’d want him as my lifetime partner.  Miller…don’t let that man slip away.

How’d they work together during her pregnancy? When did the crew find out about their ‘little secret’? More importantly, are they undercover lovers? (Undercover…get it? Police officers…undercover…lovers…? Uh, never mind. Lol)

Please give us more Valens and Miller.  I’m ready to meet their adorable pain-in-the-ass.

Author's Response:

Well, in his defense, it was quite a shock.  Scotty's a detective, yeah, but he's amazingly clueless when it comes to real life.  You're right, though, he is a sweetheart, and I have a feeling he'll come around.

More pregnancy flashbacks are ahead, and you'll get to meet the adorable pain-in-the-ass next chapter!

Thanks so much for the review!  More soon!

Title: Chapter 7: How to Embrace a Swamp Creature

The opening scenes had me cracking up!  Demonic offspring?!  LOL It was hilarious.  I could just imagine a toddler holding a police division captive, everyone dancing to her tune.  She’s got them wrapped around her little fingers.  Even Vera though he’d never admit it.

So, they live together huh?  Share the same bed you say. For…almost three years…but nothing’s going on, right?  Hmpf!  They’re so gone for each other it’s pathetic (in a good way)

That must’ve been one helluva sit-down to have with her 10-year old daughter who’s never had to share her mother with anyone, explaining all of the life changes in their family.  (I’m glad Kat said Veronica would have to be okay with their living arrangements.)  I’m thinking Veronica liked Valens but how did she react to their announcement and proposal?  What type of relationship does Valens have with Veronica now?

Loved the update, still chuckling at Nicky putting on latex gloves and going after his demolished donut.  Too funny.

Author's Response:

That little girl is a handful, and, you're right, she's got Vera wrapped around her finger.

For detectives, these two aren't very bright.  Hopefully they'll figure things out soon!

We'll explore a little bit of Veronica's reaction in the next chapter; she's met Scotty, but I think that's about it.

Glad you liked Vera and the gloves, and glad you liked the whole chapter!  Thanks for the review!

Title: Chapter 8: Orange Ball of Hate

What is God’s name was Kat’s problem?  Miss Independent has been on her own for so long she didn’t know how to accept help.  And I can understand that but she knew better.  Stubborn pride could’ve cost her, her child.  Tsk tsk tsk, crazy lady!  Plus I think she’s scared to rely on or trust Scotty, which is certainly warranted in light of her past relationship.  But Scotty’s different, a fact I’m sure is just as scary.

Moving day was a nightmare (and very well-written), Kat didn’t make it any easier and now its about to get worse, at least for her and Scotty because apparently, Lilly didn’t know anything about it.

Scotty has a way with kids, and women, he’s a cool dude.  I think Kat likes him a little too much for comfort. Hehehe, its great to see her unraveling around him. Can’t wait to see what happens next….

Author's Response:

You hit the nail on the head; she doesn't know how to accept help, and she's terrified to trust anyone, with anything.  Scotty is different, and I think she knows that, but, you're right, she's scared of that, too.  She's just a messed-up ball of issues.

Nope, Lilly had no idea what happened after their showdown about the end table.  This is brand new information for her.  It'll be interesting to see what she does with it.

Scotty's a sweetheart, and he really is great with kids.  I got most of the Scotty + Kids stuff from a scene on the show that featured his nephew, as well as the scene where he met Veronica.  And if you think you've seen Kat unraveling...just wait until the next chapter.  Which should be up soon.

Thanks for the review!

Title: Chapter 13: Distant Stations

"Scotty," she managed. "Oh, God, Scotty, where the hell are you?"Pain and guilt lancing his soul, he crossed the room in about a step. "I’m right here," he told her quietly. He wasn’t sure whether she’d let him touch her, so, for the moment, he just lingered by her bed."I can’t do this," she gasped, both physical and emotional pain clearly evident in her voice. "I can’t. I can’t go through this without you. Dammit, Scotty, please, please just show up."

Scotty was dumbfounded. Did she really not know he was there? He decided to risk touching her. The worst she could do was hit him or something, and he figured, after what he’d put her through, he deserved at least that much. Gently, he grasped her wrists and lowered them from her face, forcing her tear-filled eyes to meet his.

 ~~~~
My fav part, I almost choked up. Love, love, loved the hospital scene.  I know what it’s like to be scared and alone; it’s no fun.  Sure there were family members present but he wasn’t there so I totally empathize with her meltdown, very realistic. I’m glad she wasn’t tripping or acting a fool. Her demeanor and his support of her made for a nice moment  Actually, the entire chapter read well and transitioned fluidly from each character’s perspective of past to present. (Excellent job!)
Interesting that Kat & Scotty are contemplating the meaning of their relationship; they’re both in denial. Be true to your heart people! Lol
Love how the characters – Vera, Jeffries, Rush, Boss, the crew – all relate to one another and the subtle yet effective humor injected throughout the story (I’m a sucka for hilarity, laughter’s good for the soul). Also, their emotions, expressions, even body language is written fabulously. Scotty’s reaction to fatherhood as well as his indecision or fear of walking through that door just captivated me. (Awesome!)
I’m in love with Scotty!  He is such a great guy!  How Kat hasn’t molested him, repeatedly, just blows my mind.  I mean, a fine-ass virile man is in her bed every night!!! How can she not cop-a-feel or scratch that damn itch every now and then is beyond my comprehension.  She’s a better woman than me I’ll tell you that but…, I understand and admire their devotion to the children and making their ‘family’ unit work.
You did it again Oucellogal…another fantastic update! So let’s have a baby…
Author's Response:
Awwww, thank you!  Yeah, Kat's one of those people who bottles it up and doesn't let anyone see how scared she really is, but times like this, you can't really hide stuff like that.
And I'm glad you enjoyed that she wasn't tripping!  That's one of my pet peeves with books/movies/TV; women in labor are always allegedly screaming and swearing and threatening anything male.  That's SO not how it is in real life, so I wanted to portray that.  Besides, Kat's better than that. ;)
I'm glad you're enjoying the humor!  That's one of my favorite parts of Cold Case, and I think, when you get right down to it,  humor is my favorite thing to write.  This story doesn't lend itself to ROFLs as much as some others I've written, but it had its moments. :)
Scotty is a great guy, isn't he?  He's just so awesome.  I have no idea how Kat has kept her hands to herself, other than she just hasn't thought of him in That Way.  Much.  And, you're right, they're both devoted to making their family work.  I think, though, that they're going to have to face their feelings very, very soon.
Baby is on her way!  Next chapter will be up soon!  Thanks so much for such a thoughtful review!
Title: Chapter 15: Fault Lines
Oh good grief Scotty!
Yes, okay, I get that they’re accustomed to their way of life but dang man…to leave her hanging like that?  Wow. He’s murder on a woman’s self esteem.  Even Kat Miller deserves affection, love…he of all people should know that.
Wonder how she felt about their near-kiss?
Author's Response: Scotty's a big chicken.  I think he's figured this out.  And yes, he knows she deserves more.  I think, though, that he also thinks she deserves more than just random sex on the couch without him figuring out how he feels about her first.  As for how she feels...well, that's what next chapter is for!  Thanks for the review!
Title: Chapter 16: Color In Your Cheeks
For a man and woman who claim to know the other, they really don’t. Professionally they’re great at reading people yet they fail miserably when it comes to matters of the heart. Both have valid misconceptions but…their actions is running amok, bordering on the ridiculous.
Enough already!  All evasive maneuvers need to cease…immediately! lol
I wonder how Veronica feels about her parents’ comfortable awkwardness.  (Scotty’s the only father-figure she’s ever known; I’m sure he loves her as his daughter too.) Sometimes adults gain clarity through a child’s perspective.
One more chapter you say?  Surely not, bringing Miller and Valens together is almost an act of…of…of…I dunno…multiple updates? LOL
Don’t you agree?
Author's Response:
Yeah, these people are brilliant detectives when it comes to anyone but themselves.  I think next chapter will bring the conversation we've all been waiting for!
I think this story will wrap itself up nicely in the next chapter, but I have more Scotty/Kat in the works, so stay tuned!
Damn a wannabe-but-never-will chump Allen; he’s a loser.  Sasha needs Pavlov, a real man, a kind man, a do-right sexy-as-hell man!!!  Good lawd!  Pavlov made my night when I saw his pic amongst the other cast members.  (Thanks for that SPAC lol).  Pavlov and Sasha would make a great team. The things that man could do to a sista…whew!...makes me all warm thinking about it.
Ok. I’m done. Lol.
Great start, I like the concept. I’m looking forward to reading more.
Author's Response:
Hi JV4ME!
Allen...rotfl.  Pavlov is so hawt isn't he.  I'm so glad he made your night.  He's so yummy.   Glad you enjoyed the read so far.  There's more to come. ;-)
Title: Chapter 4: Chapter 3
I am just too pissed with Sasha!  How the hell can such an intelligent woman be so dumb. Damn!  Girl, I couldn’t even read the rest, couldn’t even watch her get more screwed than she already has.  URGH!  He probably wasn’t even worth it!  Dumbass.  I want Pavlov to royally kick his A.S.S. (Portia needs to give Sash a swift kick too!)
Ok, rant over. Lol
Thanks for the update. *smiles*
Author's Response: LMAO, yes Sasha evokes all kinds of emotions. Thanks for reading.
Title: Chapter 16: Chapter 16
You…are…freaking killing me girl!!!  I LOVED it
I heart this couple, and Ulrich adores her. Their connection is stronger than Lycan vs Vampire, it transcends immortality and beyond. It’s as if gravity exists only for their reunion.
I hope there’s a way that Salvatore’s existence can be erased from her memory. How cruel is it to live for three-hundred-plus years thinking that no one loved her.  Gawd I hope nothing impedes their progress…Sebine deserves the truth of her ancestry and most importantly, the fact that she is indeed married to the fine-ass Lycan king.  (I can’t wait for Ulrich to rip that asshole to shreds – piece by disgusting piece!)
Very anxiously waiting for the next chapter.
Title: Chapter 1: Part 1: cast
Great cast! The men are scrumptious, Ulrich is hypnotic, sexy!
Author's Response: I know! I just had to cast Jason Lewis as my Ulrich, that man is just too sexy!
