In the Summer of 1988, tragedy hits home for Charlene Jacobson and her father when her little brother is killed playing a game of basketball in their Detroit housing projects.  She soon finds herself living in the small rural town of Millersville, Georgia, with her estranged grandmother. Millersville is a place where time stands still and the racial divide is as prevalent as the 1950s.  Secrets, lies, and betrayal lurk in every corner. Yet, through it all she finds solace in the arms of Ryan Quinn, a white senior track star and the son of the town Sherriff.

Thank you for posting this chapter. I enjoyed it tremendously. Well written, lively and good flow without so much as a step out of place.

That Christi is quite a terror coming from a family of bullies makes my blood boil. I hope she'll meet her match, or maybe she already has. I like Karen, I hope she finds someone nice to call on her.

I hope everything with your hubby works out and that his health improves. I look forward to the next installment.

This was absolutely beautiful.  I could feel the struggle between Ryan and Charlene.  One ruled by heart and the other by what other's may think. All in all, they both feel the same thing, a raw, strong yet sweet attraction for one another. This story is set in a time in which two people want the same thing but in a place where small-mindedness reigns supreme.  A sad fact that still exists today.

Another fantastic chapter I throughly enjoyed. It is sad that the relationship between Ryan and his dad turned for the worst and Charlene feels somewhat to blame for it. It is amazing that Ryan is so mature and has so much strength of character at his age.  I can't believe his dad treated him the way he did. What a jerk!  It is rough on a kid his age having to make tough choices and suddenly be put in a situation where he has to fend for himself. I'm surprised that his mother didn't exactly do much to defend him. To add insult to injury, his friend Wes hooked up with his ex. Lordy, whats gonna happen next????  I can't wait!!!

This was a fantastic chapter. It had me on my toes from beginning to end.  I got so scared for Charlene.  I'm still wondering if those two horrid guys are going to go after her since she knows what they were up to.

Ryan finding out one way or another is going to be devastating.  He lives in a small town so him finding out is bound to happen.  Worst is if it turns out he he finds out that Charlene knew all along. Timing is so important here.  

I think it would be better she told him, but not without letting him know that she has feelings for him and that she wouldn't feel right if she kept it to herself.  She should tell him that she told him because she cares a lot for him and didn't want their friendship to be ruined by her silence.  

Or, she could be subtle and play it neutral and say, "hey, I saw your dad talking to Mia today. She looked a bit sad though. I didn't hear much because I was on my way to the bathroom but I heard and i might be wrong, her telling him that her daughter is sick and thanked him for bringing medicine." then wait for his reaction.    

Well that's my two cents.  i know however you decide to handle this, it is going to be wonderful reading it.  Right now I'm so happy that finally Charlene and Ryan are being honest with each other about their feelings and I don't want them to cloud that honesty with secrets.

Ryan finding the picture of a baby just adds more suspense to his father's already secretive life. 

His friend Danny has an unfortunate life.  Terrible thing what his mom did by running away abandoning them.  His father is filled with bile doesn't make his life any easier.

Loved this chapter.  Small town, even smaller world.  She thinks he doesn't know about Meeka and his father's connection.  I am more curious about what his father is going to do now that Ryan knows.  Will Ryan tell his dad about Charlene and how will he react.  

Loved the hot chemistry between Charlene and Ryan.  Loved the scene with them in the closet kissing.  I'm glad he pulled her away at the last moment instead of parting after their bad studying session.  At least they are not mad at each other anymore.  A lesson to all of us is in the event of a quarrel is to just kiss your love and ask questions later.  LoL. Works everytime.

Title: Chapter 2: Chapter 2 - Don't Kill the Messenger

I enjoyed this thoroughly!  I was wiping my eyes from laughing up a storm. I just loved the dialogue and your writing.  So action filled and moments of comic relief.  I loved your take on Marnie/Antonia.  I liked that you brought in Godric using Lafayette as a medium to channel him.  That was some cool stuff going down. As for Nan, that she vamp is pure vinegar.  A character I just love to hate. Can't wait for the next installment.  Can't wait for some TAM.
