Title: Chapter 1: CAST

Nice choice for the cast.

It's a very sad tale so far, but I'm looking forward to reading more.

This reminds me of last year when a cement truck toppled onto the back of a school bus, killing a little girl. That driver was intoxicated and speeding and survived without a scratch too. I cannot imagine the family's grief. Then they had to relive it when he went on trial a few months ago.

Gabi probably needs in-patient treatment, sorry to say. I hope the baby is okay.

Title: Chapter 1: Office Politics

Oh gosh!! How sweet. How sad.

Three years is a long time to be having such a secret crush... a mutual secret crush. I hope that one day one of them gets up the nerves to say something or act on heir attraction.

This was a very nice short, capturing each person's frustrations with being stuck in jobs they hate. Their hopes revolve around their connection to each other. Their desperation of being trapped in unfulfilling jobs is written so clearly.

Thanks for sharing!!!!

Author's Response:

It is pretty sad, right? Three years, come on! ;)

Thanks for reading Bluegardenia!

Title: Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Hi Dimples,

Nice start!! There is a lot of potential here.

Keisha needs a job but wants her big singing break. She will have to thread very carefully for Edward to believe that she didn't use the nanny job to get next to him. (She did, but it's not something he'd soon forget or forgive.) I also can't wait to see what you do with the suicidal dog angle. LOL

Readers absolutely love nice long updates on a regular basis.

Please continue.

Author's Response:

I am glad you in enjoyed what you have read so far.

As for the suicidal dog angle her best friend is going to help with that, lets just say the four of them (Keisha, her best freind, Heather, and Charlie) will have some Lucy and Ethal moments in the story.

Title: Chapter 2: Part II

Wonderful story!!

You can pick your friends, but must deal with the folks given to you as family, and, help us, they can be a trying lot at times.

Such was the very complicaed relationship between Emogene and Yolanda. And poor Beverly, the perfect ostrich with her head deep in the sand.

The really ironic thing about the dynamics of family, is that despite the tormoil, slights, favoritism, and infigthing, they are still, at times,  the ones we shelve years of animosity to make sacrifices for in a crisis.

What an insightful story. Thanks for sharing, Dronellar.

Happy day giving thanks for those we have and hold dear!!!!

Author's Response: Thanks Blue for reading. I always appreciate your feedback.  Surely can't pick your family.  Yolanda has become the one harness that Emogene requires to keep from sinking.  Yep, Beverly the Ostrich analogy was spot on.  She doesn't want to see.  You have a great holiday.

A post-Thanksgiving one-shot addition to Love Bears All

Nicole wants her best friend Peyton to wear the smile she finds in her mirror each day.  Who's the guy she's eyeing for Peyton?  None other than Jonathan Charles, Brian's newly discovered half brother.  Will she ask for her husband's intervention or is she set to handle the duties of 'cupid' all on her own?

Title: Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Dear SPAC, that was very sweet, filling, and delicious. The presentation (banner and cast, baby pics) was as enticing as the great flavor... a little sweet, some spicy and definitely HOT!!

What Brian served up to Nicole was far more substantial than leftovers, too. But the man's eyes are bigger than his stomach. Another baby so soon? No way, dude!Practice away, though!!

Little miss "matchmaker, matchmaker, make me a match" will not be deterred. I presume Chris and Peyton need a nudge?

I'd love to read a story about Nicole's gung ho efforts trying to set up Jonathan and Peyton. Maybe for Valentine's Day. Hmmm????

I'll graze on other creative gourmet fare until then.

Hey, got any ribs left from the BBQ at Sammy's folk's house??? <Hint, hint>

;-{)

Author's Response:

OMG! Ok, thanks Blue for reading and reminding me that I'm neglecting "Sammy"...I got you!

Yes Nicole is all over that coup like a cheap suit.  Brian wants Nicole at home, and she knows this.  This story is actually functioning as a spin off of Dr. Feelgood, which will be continued and hopefully completed in the next two weeks.  I'm going to really push this one out, because it got delayed through my transferring of files etc. and other busy work offline.

Peyton and Jonathan are going to give us all quite a time, because not only are they thinking about the obvious, which is the fact their relationships with Brian and Nicole could be hampered if there's a fail, but their own insecurities, and past relationships doom.

Thanks Blue, for reading again and again.  I love writing about my favorite musing couple.  They have so much story for me tell through them.  I wanted you to see the babies and how they've grown.  I love babies.

Title: Chapter 33: Around the Kinda Misery I Find Part 1

Wonderfully told!!

Ah, crud! I cried!!

Maybe all the freakin' cold, rain, cold & rain here have gotten to me. It isn't a 100 ft of snow and all, but...

There was something deeply touching and profoundly sad about this chapter. It came in waves... roaring, reaching in and gripping your heart then ebbing, settling in like a hovering fog. Beautiful yet sad.

Nickolai and Sunshine's last moments together before their trips was sad. Stanislavsky’s tale of losing his son, then losing the light in his late beloved wife's eyes was so honest and raw... and sad. I hope it wasn't a hint of what WILL happen, versus what could happen.

Accounts of Nicholai's estrangement from his parents were always poignant, when Sunny could choax details out of him. The estrangement itself was so tragic and unnecessary. Their attitude and behavior, how they broke Nikki's poor heart, pissed me off.

So Nicholai's so-called reunion with both, which had potential to be very healing;  was dissappointing and seriously pissed me off.

Was his mother in super hypocrite bitchiness mode or what? And his father? Dying and spewing venom. Thankfully the blackness didn't overcome Nicholai and drive him to put a bed pillow over his father's face and snuff him. I was tempted.

I cheered when Nicholai told him off, called him out on his shit, called him out for disrescting Stanislavsky and told him he'd never meet Sunny.

I'm not certain he should introduce Sunny to his acid-tongued mother either, for that matter. She lives in Russia, but her hear is as cold as Siberia. Brrrr.

I think I've said this before... Two things (continue to)bother me about Sunny... the fact that she never tells Nicholai that she loves him and that she has painted him into a corner by asking him a question that is a lose-lose. He loses her if he lies, as he's promised her never to lie to her... and she will know if he lies. And he loses her or will set her free rather than keep her if the light goes out in her eyes if he tells her the truth.

On a brighter, happier note; I did notice a new peace and gentlenss in Nicholai, reaching out to Kostya as he did. Sunny did ask him, even encouraged him. He complied and ut his heart into it.

I also was moved by how concerned she was about him and his sadness after the visit with his parents.

His reflecting on how she related to him even in the beginning when she should have loathed him, been cold, angry and hostile was touching, repentent.

Ohhhh... pleazzzze don't take Nicholai's Sunshine away!

You are my Sunshine, my only Sunshine. You make me happy when skies are grey. Youll never know, dear, how much I love you. Please don't take my Sunshine away. <sniff>

Title: Chapter 36: I'll Send You My Best Part 1

(shaking head & tsk-tsking in disbelief) So, you're not good with fluff, huh? WRONG!!

This was so beautiful!!

First, what an absolutely perfect setting for a reunion. Paris in a suite with all the perks and a breath-taking view.

Second, I loved that Sunny spent time just talking to Nicholai rather than the expect rush into each other's arms, tear clothes off, etc. And who else would come up with the cocoa butter treatment? If that didn't scream LOVE. I LOVE YOU.

Third, I did hold my breath a bit, waiting for the words. A little. But Sunny seems more entuned to showing Nikki, telling him without actually using those three little potent, often misused words.

I was moved by Nicholai's interactions with the business associate still mired in the seedier side of the business. He bristled with distaste, perhaps as much embarrassment as he is capable of, to be reminded of the earlier, brutal and dark version of himself.

Someone speculated a while back whether Nicholai would/could go legit in order to be with Sunny. I'm now wondering the same thing.

Sunny is so spectacular with and to Nikki and her devotion, contrasted with his doubts about being worthy is so touching. What would either sacrifice to keep this??

And of course there was THE reunion. These two sizzle whereever they are. But again, that has never been their problem.

Great work!!! Can't wait for part 2.

Title: Chapter 24: I'll Send You a Sign...Just so You Know

Hmmm... Wonder-freak-in'-ful! Nothing like the miserable curses of the world spreading their poison like the persistent viruses that they are.

Darla gets no credit from me. Gee, didn't she sound a little envious when she told how she got tossed on her ass on May 19th?? How Nicholai treated her compared to Sunny? I believe tha she was a bitch to Priscilla and the staff. Didn't come from shit but had a nasty attitude and a measure of self-importance just because she was a bed-warmer. I doubt her alturism in attempting to open Sunny's eyes and save her.

I'm neither condoning nor excusing his behavior or actions, even his twisted mindset, BUT I believe Nicholai was still at that cold, mean, desperate stage when he did these things. Desperation, hate, and malice lead people to extremes from which they cannot step back onto the safety of solid ground of reason. Sunny knows this. This is part of her capacity to forgive and accept, maintain fate in the flawed people she holds dear to her heart.

Then again, Nicholai has been a hot mess since he realized that he loves Sunny and wants a future wih her. The man is a nervous wreak with that damn black velvet box. The ensuing confrontation will be a deciding factor. Sunshine will get that huge shove out the door that she has been hesitating over.

If there is to be a future between Nicholai and Sunshine, it has to be based on a clean, fresh start.

Great stuff!!! I'm looking forward to the third song.

Title: Chapter 21: Cause I Am Me, the Universe and You

HAPPY NEW YEAR, Ominosity!!!

This is so late, but...

Sometimes I really believe that Nicholai and Sunshine are so in love with each other. Under "normal" or usual circumstances, his would be suc a sweet, beautiful love story between two unique, different people who seem to compliment each other if only by one being the other's bright light of goodness and hope.

However, we already know that that equation did not work for Jasmine and Jacob. Jasmine could not love the darkness out of Jacob's soul. All she did was bless him with two beautiful children, to whom he has brought pain, suffering and a misguided hopeful heart (Sunshine) and bitterness and hate (Benjamin) instead of changing to honor her or her memory.

I'm worried about exactly where Nicholai and Sunny will end up. Nicholai wants marriage. Sergei wans to wait for Sunny. What does Sunny want???

Sunshine definitely deserves better than to repeat her mother's life. She is smarter and better than that.

She definitely needs to keep her distance from her father. How in tarnations could he ever dream of cooking up another scheme with that mangy hood rat Peanut who ran off with the money and left him holding the bag last time???

But damn! Peter/Peanut stuck Jacob!! Wow!!! Just as he finally freaking gets it!!! ARG!!! For Sunny's sake, I hope he is okay. Peanut??? Peanut is as good as DEAD. In his twisted sense of justice, Nikki will track him down and eliminate him, just for causing Sunny pain.

What a chilling turn of events.

Luv, luiv, luv this story!!!!

On to the latest update!!!

Title: Chapter 23: When You Are on Your Own

Onimosity, I'm a review behind. I apologize. I'm behind period on some stories/reviews. I do not read ahead, though, as much as I'm tempted to when I see that beautiful new banner. So, here goes...

OMG, this was so... sad... revealing... touching... SAD. Damn. Whew!! What a chapter. What turn of events.Well, was Peanut really done in? Where the hell is Darla?? She makes my left eye twitch… a little nervous thang. Has Nicholai covered his tracks for anything about Jacob that Sunny will process once the initial shock of grief starts to wear off? He has let some little details such as having Jacob followed, etc. slip recently.Ben is such a precious child. Jacob. He hardened his heart to his father, reconciled himself to Jacob's ultimate fate... Sunny's perpetual optimism. He worships his sister.I love how he kept telling Nicholai that he knew hjm… knew who he was and who he was to Sunny. Yet he bravely did what any good brother would do, threatened to protect his sister. I believe that conversation and their gesture of unity and bonding over pistachio ice cream was a sign of mutual respect. There are subtle changes in Nicholai. But the darkness and rage are still there, never far from boiling to the surface. Damn, Rome wasn’t built in a day, a wild stallion tamed overnight, and a ferocious lion made a vegetarian. <Sigh>

I’m torn. Sunny is too young, too vibrant not to go forth and make her stamp on the world, share her capacity to spread love, hope, and caring. On the other hand, I can see her remaining with Nicholai. How will either mend their broken heart should she leave?

I'm sad. I have this feeling of forboding. A heart will be broken.

Damn, I love this story and these characters, even Nicholai’s scary obsessive intense self.

Luv your brilliance, Onimosity, in telling it. Luv it!!!!

No, a million "Thank yous" to you!!! I'm bawling my eyes out!!!

Yes, this wasn't a fairy tale. It was a love story. And love is the strangest, most wonderful, mysterious, powerful thing that we as humans have at our disposal. Yet so few of us do it right or find it in it's truest form, especially with the most unlikely of people. We seem to lack the tenacity and dedication to be a Sunshine to a Nicholai. The sun trumping the star.

Title: Chapter 40: I'm Gonna Get Up...

<cough, cough> Didn't mean to stay away so long. I've been sick and cranky all week and very over all the funky weather. Rain. Cold. Cold. Rain. Rain and cold. ... you get the picture.

Anywho... The chapter was so, so brilliant. I am not a natural or lifelong fan of romance. I love mysteries. Crime thrillers. Brilliant, scary, murderous psychopaths and the men and women who chase them. I love strong, alpha men with a little edge, redeemable amounts of dysfunction, salvageable broken hearts. Strong independent women who kick their asses and hug and comfort them, love them, teach them,  guide them and are led by them without losing themselves or becoming submissive drones.

Somehow, you have managed to roll most to almost all of that (less the pesky law enforcement presence) into one wonderful story that is so in-depth that your faithful readers rebel when you tease us with breaking up the world's most unlikely happy couple.

I'm too brain dead and medicated to go on, but Attheritz said it best.

I'll add an A-men to her review and offer an aged bottle of island rum for whatever potent potable she has in mind. I'm switching from the pharmacy shit to hot toddies in a minute.

Title: Chapter 43: Shine - Epilogue

Onimosity, dear, the three Ss = Sex, Schmaltz, and Schmoop were supremely superior.

Ah, what a trip!! What an adventure! What a high! Damn, even the lows were exhilarating.

You came along and presented this sad, retched tale of weakness, addiction, and desperation, tangled it with optimism, hope, and honest bravery; dared us to defy our natual instinct to do the obvious... draw a line in the sand and chose good over evil. But it quickly became evident that it would not be that easy, that clear cut, that simple.

Jeeze, I was emotional reading this. Like Sunny, I believe I can tell where I  began to soften to Nicholai... first, recognizing that he had been a good boy forced to harden to survive, abolish love and sentiment out of betrayal and rejection just to chose to rediscover it in order to be remotely worthy of a woman he worshipped.

You presented so many contrasts in some wonderful characters. Mr. S as a ruthless mobster but a kind loving father to a lost boy; faithful mentor and parent to a man he'd grown to cherish as his own. Sergei. Poor misguided Sergei. Anatoly, the loyal Lt and best friend and maybe mama's boy. LOL Goodness, Jacob totally frustrated me. I just couldn't get past the fact that he allowed his young daughter to be served up as collateral, no matter the ultimate outcome. Ben. Ben without Sunny.

I admired Sunny from the start but found myself frustrated with her torturing Nikki by not telling him that she loved him. It seemed so obvious that she showed it, but he had to hear it, as foreign as it was to him; but she just wouldn't say it. Meanwhile Sergei...

I could go on and on...

I cannot remember the last time I wished so long, hard, and desperately for a happy ending between two people who were so unlikely to make it, who appeared to be so incompatible on the surface.

Hmm... I'm feeling a bit like an addict about to enter rehab. No more stalking. No more regular fixes. Only a promise of an occasional taste. Withdrawal will be tough, but that last hit was sublime.

Whatever motivated you to write again after ten long years; I am eternally grateful. Kudos and a bottle from my secret stash for the next round of pina coladas. You and your muse earned it.

Until the wedding!!!!!!!! Or whatever gem you post next.

Title: Chapter 22: You Know There's No Need to Hide Away

The new banner is absolutely beautiful. Perfect.

For a character I confess not liking from the beginning of this story, Jacob's end, be it cowardice or bravery, disturbs me, so I re-read the end of the chapter.

REDEMPTION: salvation, release, rescue, deliverance, liberation, emancipation.

Jacob knew that the "itch" to gamble was deep in his soul. He would continue to gamble and rack up debt and Sunny would continue to serve his sentence with Nicholai. And because Sunny is Jasmine's own daughter, she would suffer the same fate as Jazz did, die young trying to save a man unworthy of her efforts or her love and devotion.

Jacob's act was meant as a liberation, an emancipation of Sunny and Benji, but mostly Sunny and the only means of releasing himself from his weakness. A lifetime of failure and regret is redeemed by this one self-sacrificing act.

This is a far more sympathetic view. It by no means suggests that all is forgiven of Jacob, just better understood. He was still a patethic misguided soul.

RIP, Jacob... finally.

Title: Chapter 22: You Know There's No Need to Hide Away

Ha!!! To know Nicholai is to both love and FEAR his scary ass. “Kill him.” He says bluntly. “Painfully. We must send a message. What is mine is not to be touched.” Damn! He sure didn't waste a breath ordering Peanut to be roasted or salted and boiled (a Southern fav). Serves Peanut's low-life junkie behind right!!

WTF??? Of all the chicken shit coward acts to commit. What? Did Jacob try to frame Nicholai for this? Or was he attempting to free Sunny by effectively canceling the whole deal/contract?

Isn't it a bit too damn late for that? They are already in love... I think. Well, Jacob thought so. He almost had a heart attack when he saw them together. He shoulda thought of this before... years ago, when he sat back and allowed his sweet Sunny to "pay off" his debt.

I'm sorry. He gets no credit from me for this. He has only caused her more pain. Okay, okay. I'll give him a little credit for recognizing the similarities between himself & Jazz and Nicholai & Sunny. I give him a half credit for seeing and apologizing to Sunny and Benji for being a failure of a father. His own son loves and respects Sunny as both mother AND father in their family. That must have been a shock.

So sad. Jacob's last gamble might be...? His first success? Final failure?

Dark or raw and real, I love this story AND the way that you have been telling it.

Until the next hair-raising update...

We can learn from the mistakes of others; but we must still live our own lives, make or own mistakes, hopefully, take that wisdom and move on... live and LOVE wiser, stronger.

I was glad to hear her fin-a-freak-in'-ly admit that her little flight of fancy was a wee bit too dangerous. In essence she put Nikki and Ben under undue stress and worry all in an effort to capture or express something that she already possessed.

Whew!! The box of tissue is untouched through another chapter. Good deeds and all, that trip to Africa couldn't be over soon enough for me. Thank you idiot interns who are too arrogant to respect imminent danger.

Bring on gay Paris in the summertime!! Bring on the fluffery and lots of hot reunion monkey sex!!!!

Title: Chapter 34: Around the Kinda Misery I Find Part 2

Yea, an update!!

Sorry, I haven't read an "off" chapter yet. You are doing an absolutely marvelous job with this.

Thank you for the insight into Sunny's reluctance to embrace Nikki 100% and surrender that last 20% that she is holding onto out of... FEAR.

I did not agree with Mrs. Washington's nosy, mouthy friend, Bea,... even if it was good advice. She was just a child, s wise-beyond-her-years child, but still a child.

Anyway, despite the advice, Sunny still remained almost as devoted to her father as her mother had been. It doesn't mean that she cannot risk it with Nicholai. She realizes that his is not the only life impacted and even enhanced, richened by their relationship.

And I can understand mister puppy love Sergei, however, is lips are flapping and stupid things are spewing forth... again. He sounded mocking, critical and very disloyal when he, of all people, accused Nicholai of not protecting Sunny. The nerve of the little shit!!!

Speaking of shits... that dude Royce is creeping me out big time. Hmmm... is he the secret security???

On to pt.3... seems like all hell is about to break out.

Title: Chapter 36: I'll Send You My Best Part 1

Ah yes, I have to commend you on what a superb job you do on writing Nicholai's POV.

Since he has discovered love, been getting in touch with his feelings, his range of emotions is so vast, complicated, raw, and almost torturous to read.

This is the fourth time that you have given us Nikki in all his depth and complexity. A man who is so untouched by love but profoundly affected by it's purity in Sunshine.

The first time was his conflict with wanting to ask her to marry him. His fear of losing her. His desperation to keep her. His playing with that ring was hard to read, even for me who realized that they had to break and start again clean as equals.

The second time was when Sunshine actually left him.

The third was when she decided to go on this trip.

And recently, the crisis from Nikki's perspective. It was far worse that the feelings that bubbled to the surface during that awful visit with the retched parents.

Hell, he even cried. That's profound... great writing skills.

Just had to give it to you for developing the man with such depth that what he does for a living for once is not the focus of why he deserves or doesn't deserve a chance with Sunny.

Title: Chapter 4: With your kiss my life begins

Welcome, Onimosity. Kudos on taking the plunge and posting your first story!!!

I love Sunny's spunk. She had her future planned before her dear old pathetic father ruined it. Her father is sick. He is an addict... addicted to gambling.

And yes, he's despicable, too. He isn't above "leasing" his only daughter out to save his own sorry hide. Actually not even to do that but to sink deeper into debt. That was truly sad. No real remorse. At least Sunny is a level-headed realist and sees what she's working with... a perfect lose-lose situation, unfortunately.

He is her father but a lost cause, intent on continuing to drag them down. Sunny should only be concerned about her little brother, Benji. Her father should be on his own.

Nickolai is an odd contrast between cold hard brutality and warm gentle caring. Seriously, he could have dumped Darla without a pot or a window... or simply killed her. Luckily he seems to like Sunny's fire and sass or else I see BIG trouble ahead. There probably still will be, as Sergei seems to like her, something that could be very dangerous for both of them.

I'm enjoying reading your story and look forward to regular updates.

Good Luck!!!!
