Chamber Fiction

I forgot my password! What do I do now?

Don't you hate it when that happens? Just click here and enter the e-mail address with which you registered. Your password will be sent to your email inbox. Whew, crisis averted.

What kinds of stories are allowed?

The Chamber is a fiction archive devoted to original works and fan fiction from the unique perspective of the African-American heroine. This means we like everything, as long as there's an awesome AA lead front and center. For more information see our Submission Rules.

How do I contact the site administrators?

You can e-mail us via our contact form. It's at the bottom of the page and says "Contact Us." We're simple people.

How do I submit stories?

First register for an account, its easy and you'll feel good afterwards. Once you've logged in, click on Account Information and choose Add Story. The form presented there will allow you to submit your story to the masses.

What are the ratings used on the site?

We rate stories based on the appropriate age level of the material. Since the MPAA had decided that online fiction and fanfics apparently threaten their existence in society, the ratings are as follows:

17 and older

Mature Content

Teen or Above

Most Ages

All Ages

What are the story classifications?

Stories are classified by categories, genres, warnings, characters and author and more. It's really cool, check it out.

How do I add images to my story?

Ooh, pictures. Images may be inserted by copying a direct link to an image from a photo sharing site (such as photo bucket) into the story or series summary or story text by using the small picture icon at the bottom of the text box. HTML code may be used to insert photographs by clicking the HTML button at the bottom of the text box and pasting the code in the proper format. And there you have it. A proper banner to go with your awesome story.

Everyone has a banner. Can I get one?

Why yes you can. But you have to be a Chamber author first, which means adding a story to the archive. After that, just register for the Chamber Forum and you'll find a banner request thread in the Writer's Exchange. Or, you can make your own, which is totally cool. Just make sure it's no bigger than 400X200 pixels in size, or it will be deleted. And that goes for any images in your summary.

The formatting of my story changes when I copy/past from Microsoft Word. What am I doing wrong?

First, stop cursing at the computer screen. If your formatting is lost when you attempt to copy/past from Microsoft Word try copying your text and then clicking the small Word clipboard button at the bottom of the text box. Select yes when it asks to access your clipboard and text will appear in the story text box. If you still lose your formatting, try the same steps using the add text button next to the Word button underneath the text box. Now breathe deeply. There you go...in...out...

How do you choose the featured stories?

Featured stories are chosen by the administrators, who truly love you all equally. The administrators like to feature a variety of stories in various genres featuring a variety of heroines in varying tones and settings. In other words, we want a little bit of everything. Stories are featured on the site by use of the Chamber Vid feature. If a story does not have a video trailer and is chosen as a featured story for the site one will be created for it by The Chamber Administrators. Such nice girls...

Okay, so will you make me a trailer?

Not if your story isn't chosen to be featured. But you are free to create your own and place in the story trailer box when you add or modify a story. Then it will show up in your summary for everyone to see.

How do you pick the reader of the month?

The reader of the month is chosen by the admins. The reader will generally be an active registered member of The Chamber, who demonstrates enthusiastic and continued support of the authors and their works.. Factors taken into consideration include posting of reviews or comments, participation in The Chamber forum and a consistent general presence on the Chamber archive. So start writing those reviews. And no, an admin cannot be the reader of the month. That would be kinda weird, huh?

How do I review a story?

Oh, there are lots of ways. Okay, maybe two. Reviews or comments may be left anonymously which means there is no registration requirement to leave feedback for the authors. However, only registered members are eligible for reader of the month. And umm..why haven't you registered yet? Its okay, come inside. We have candy.

User Gallery

Q: You have user galleries? Can I have one?

A: You already do. When you register for the Chamber Gallery you automatically receive the capabilities to set up your own user gallery, where you can upload your pictures, banners, avatars, and vids. Isn't that nice?

Q: Yeah, okay. Um, how to I set mine up?

A: You need to create an album first, this is were you'll put the files you upload to the gallery page. You can create as little or as many as you like, and organize them by file type, character etc. Just click Create/Order my Albums, and hit the New button at the bottom of the box. Type in the name of your album, then click apply modifications. And now you're ready to upload your files! Yay!

Q: What kind of files can I upload?

A: Any you like really, though not porn of course. Since the site is geared toward African American fiction, so pics in that theme would be nice. But this is your gallery, and therefore your domain.

Q: Can I use the pics I find in the public gallery?

A: Yep. They're not ours either, so right click away.

Q: Can I use the stuff I find in user galleries?

A: That would be up to the user, particularly when it comes to fan art. It's possible the user won't mind, but you should ask permission just to be sure. And please, if you take someone's artwork, credit them. It's rude not to.

Q: Can I add pics to the public gallery.

A: No, only admins have access to public galleries. But if you have a pic you would like to see added, they would be more than happy to do so for you. Admins are nice that way.

Q: Okay, but now I have this really complicated question that can't be answered with a few lines of info and cute little quips.

A: Email the admins. They'd love to help, and will provide personal quips free of charge.

Chamber Forum

Q: I can see the forum but I can't post in it. Why not?

A: Because you haven't registered. Forum registration is separate from the archive, so take a few seconds and type in your info. It's quite painless and you'll be able to take part in enlightening conversations about your favorite story or perhaps even request a story from one of The Chamber authors. Or talk about how fine Christian Bale is-that's cool too.

Q: Can I---swear in my posts?

A: F*ck yes.

Q: Can I post naked pictures of hot men?

A: F*ck no. No porn please.

Q: I saw a post about the Writer's Exchange. What is that and why can't I see it?

A: The Writer's Exchange is a thread that is only accessible to Chamber authors, so if you haven't posted a story....you can't get in. So go ahead and post your fic already!
