I thought he was going to get the twins sold off. I was screaming at the twins in my head not to go. I have never been so glad to see Jared in this story yet! For a chapter ithout the main characters this was really fulfilling.

Yeah!!!! I was so hoping someone would get there in time to save the twins from going with Charles the sperm donor.
I am glad that Jared has gotten some closure with telling his truths with Lu and there is a relationship building there even with her being cautious.
I think it all will work out in the wash so to speak and that Jared is well on his way getting his act together and thinking about someone other then himself.
I hope that Jared and Charlie can talk I mean really talk and get everything out in the open like Charlie did with him mom.

OH poor Jared all he has ever wanted was the love and attention of his father and his family to be together and all he has gotten is heartache and confusion from that man and not knowing how to love his mother unconditionally and see that Charles Sr. was only a detriment to him and his family. That he had all the love that he could possibly use from his loving mother and if given the chance his brothers.
I hope that the situation of his father trying to sell him has trully opened his eyes to the light and that he does not use Lu for his own selfish reasons or continue to go down the path like his father.
Ms. Johnson needs a power drive upside the head. If she would only see that she and her husband had something to do with Darius' death by not allowing him to be with the woman he loved, though it was his wrong by drinking and driving but if they had to allowed him to grow and chose who he wanted to love he would still be alive. They never know Darius and Inga could have grown apart as time went on.
Charlie wants so much for Inga to love him deeply and unconditionally but she was so hurt and confused after her love for Darius she can't see the gold mine in front of her in the form of Charlie I hope it doesn't take too much hardship for her to realize what she has and lets her heart love again.
I am glad that inga's mom got of the business she was in and is doing something legit now with no alternative motives.
I agree with Charlie, Charles needs to take a long, burning hot ride to hell. Do not pass go, do not collect 200 bones. His own flesh and blood he tried to sell for his own mean and it was and is not even guaranteed that he would have been set free after Charles debt was paid in full or that Charles would not have incurred more debt from gambling.
Loved the updat and definitely loving the story.

I'm glad Jared showed up in the nick of time. He has redeemed himself. Lu has been a great influence on him. I can't wait to read more about Jared & Lu.

OMG; what a fantastic update!
I am so proud of Lucinda for putting her foot down and demanding that Jared pull his weight! The fact that she didn't let her feelings for him sway her from communicating her expectations of Jared is even more commendable..smart girl! i am so glad that she convinced Jared to go see his mother, and that his timing was right on!
Just when I think Charles Sr. can't sink any lower, he just does...what a despicable character. Those poor little babies; even though they don't think they are, they're still babies...you had my heart thumping and my blood racing thinking that Charles was going to lure those poor innocent boys away...love the way Jared finally manned up and was a big brother to them! Not a moment too soon, in my opinion!
Even without any Charlie & Inga, I thoroughly enjoyed this update, and am already craving another...lol..

I'm not trying to give Jared a hard time. Really, I'm not. Its just that the whole woe-is-me line from him doesn't quite ring true for me. They all had it bad! Just how much fun does he think Charlie was having while working, cleaning, cooking, and looking after his three younger brothers? Starting at fourteen no less! Or even Val, working herself practically to death. Does he think that his brothers didn't miss their father as well? He admitted that Charlie was in over head, so why didn't he ever pitch in to help where he could? Help ease the burden some. He wasn't some damn outcast, nor was he special in what he felt. Jared chose to act a fool, so this song and dance about how nobody undertands me is bulls**t! He had a brother who was right in there with him to talk to. He would have understood because he was going through the same thing. They could have been the best of friends, and each other's confidants; if Jared had let them. Seriously, how much time does he think Val was sparing the other boys? None. What exactly was happening with the rest of the family why he was feeling so alone and neglected by everyone? What little she did have, be it things or otherwise, it all went to him. Did he ever notice that? Or even care? Honestly, he and Valerie both abandoned Charlie in the whole situation. Val had to keep the roof over their heads, yeah, but they both left Charlie to do the rest. He had no help from anyone, and he finished high school to boot! So, I'm sorry, but all that mess he was talking to Lucinda about didn't move me much. Charlie didn't have the luxury of wallowing and whining like he did. Charlie had to say goodbye to his teenage years before they'd even really begun and get busy.
Lucinda needed to tell Jared that and good for her! She's nobody's fool and I'm so glad about that. For a minute there I thought she was going to let him pull that stunt. I mean, really, when did a week of hiding out and doing him that favor turn into roomies? The fool didn't even ask her to find out if that's what she wanted, just tried to slide right on in! It's only her house! Is he for real? Everthing she said to him was dead on the money! He really was going to try and get away with that crap if she let him. Glad she told him about himself, because yeah, he was getting out of control. She's like Charlie in that she had to pull it together and do what she had to do in life. Jared would do well to listen and learn from Lucinda and Charlie; Val as well. Let's hope he does and gets it together!
Charlie Sr. I knew that was going to be his next plan; the twins. I was hoping Jared would either call or come by to warn them before that happened. So glad the twins are safe! Her husband is scum and now I think Val can stop grieving his loss and move on with her life. She can start with finally divorcing him. I think she never did that because she hoped he would come back. No one can blame her for that; perfectly natural given they have a family together. But I hope this might have put things into perspective for her.

The problem with Jared is that he's weak. Some kids are just more needy than others. We see it everyday. Some pull themselves up by their bootstraps under adversity and dig in, others sit down and cry woe is me. The thing is, the weak ones most of the time don't realize how their behavior is affecting everyone else until something drastic happens.
I wrote Jared that way because many of us can relate to Jared because he reminds us of a family member. I have a younger sister, (though she wasn't no where near as bad as Jared) who was a pain in my butt all my life. My mother said she was jealous which preplexed me because she was the beauty in the family and I was the plain older sister. When things happened, (death and life situations) in the family, she'd fall apart and everyone would look to me for strength. She told me that she wasn't strong like me, but I wasn't that strong, I grieved too, but I had to do what I had to do. I couldn't fall apart like she would and it would anger me that my mother would pat her up.
So I understand Jared and I understand what you're saying. Everything you said is true, but my mother said something that opened my eyes. "She's doing the best SHE can do." I realized that I wanted her to be stronger and be able to handle things and not be so needy, but it just wasn't in her to be like me. She didn't have it in her to be the way I wanted her to be; the way I felt she should be.
Jared wanted to be strong like Charlie, but he really couldn't. He needed somene to focus on keeping him straight...someone to tell him WHAT to do, he needed affirmation and guidance and he craved attention, which is why he was so easily taken advantage of by the older woman and by his father. Perverts always prey on the weak.

Even though I do like the story a lot, I will give you my honest opinion about the twins part. I'm glad that everything turned out great, but are Michael and Marquis really that naive or rather stupid to even consider going to new york with a man they barely know. They didn't even know who he was. He left them for more than 10 years. They couldn't even recognize him. Why would you even think about going to new york with a man you barely know. Especially one who looks like a homeless person, old and toothless. I don't know, this part was a little unrealistic to me. If they were small boys I can understand. But two grown teenage boys???

Well, they were curious and they didn't think that they were actually going to NY right then anyway. You must remember that this is a small town in a rural farming area. There are still some naive people out there.
Once they realized it was their father, they gave him a little benefit even though they didn't fully trust him. When he said that the man (one man in their thinking) was down at the egg plant, an area half mile from their house, they figured to themselves 'ok what can happen just listening to what he has to say'. It never occurred to them that the man could have a gun and certainly they didn't even consider an abduction. Those type of things didn't happen in Jarratt Va. (By the way, that's my mom's hometown. They have one light, a fire station connected to their post office. They are big time now because they have a convenience store with their service station. LOL)
Yes, things are changing even in small towns though, but they really thought that between the two of them, if he tried something that the two of them could easily overpower him and return back home.
As for Charles looking homeless, well they didn't see it that way since there are no homeless people lying around Jarratt's two block business district! They just figured he had been down on his luck.

Brenda!!!! My heart was beating sooo fast.. I thought that low down dog was gonna get those boys in that SUV....I started shouting and doing a happy dance when Jared showed up... Whooo that was a good rollercoaster ride, but I prefer the teacups for toddlers.

Jared didn't feel that he could talk to Charlie. Charlie and him knocked heads constantly because Charlie was trying to be the boss and hold everything together and Jared resented it. He was jealous of Charlie because Charlie was able to perservere through all of that was happening, while he was falling apart.
Jared knows that he has to grow up, and a heart to heart talk with Charlie is coming real soon....

Ah, but Inga did have a revelation about why she loves those movies so much. And you will remember that she has been practicing restraint in this chapter. she has been trying to go along with Charlie's wishes. It was Charlie who offered his hands for her birthday and she asked him first off if he was sure because she was worried that it might become too much for him. For once she was concerned for him before she was concerned about her own needs.
Inga is falling for Charlie fast. She doesn't even realize it yet, but she will very very soon.

I am so proud of Val for finally cutting the apron strings with Jared. I know it was hard for her cause he is her child but he needs to grow-up. Plus if he dad loved him so much he would have at least tried to spend time with his sons and not just disappeared and let them fend for themselves. Hopefully he will see the light of his ways before it's too late and he is able to mend the fence to his family, He needs a swift kick in the behind.
What happened to all that mouth about Charlie having to date her first before giving up the cookies. Patience chica he is going to give it to you in due time but it's time that you learned there is more then a quick fix and just letting in all hang out before getting to know the person case in point her exs' Lucas and Jermaine.
Charlie wants to love you and you love him and he will show you how a man in love true love is suppose to treat his woman and vice versa.
Charlie is learning new things with Inga and he so needed that break away from home.

Thanks Amie: More is coming. Jared has a few more lessons to learn as well as his father. Also, Lucinda said that thing about the sherif to see if Jared really was in some sort of trouble with the law. She figured that if he was, they'd want to be directed to the sheriff's office and if they were bad guys, the sheriff would be the last person they'd want to see! They proved to be the latter.
