Please let Hiram keep Steven. I can't stand child abuse...those parents will soon get what they deserve.  Glad Savvy is ok. Good chapter.

I hope the FBI get involved in investigating Hiram's mother and the kkk. They probably will find other children being abused by other kkk parents. I wonder will the doctors after treating Steven find Steven as a carrier of sickle cell? Now that will really upset Steven's family.

The rubber is getting ready to hit the road. Hopefully little Steven will get away from his crazy parents. If the bruises are there, that should be reason enough for someone to examine Steven.

Wow. This actually brought back a memory of when I found out that my baby nephew had sickle cell. We were in such a panic. And he just kept screaming. This really hits home. People don't think that it's as bad as it sounds but it is. You bring a lot of passion into your writing and I hope you continue. Love this story!

Btw...lil miss savvy is simply adorable!! How could anyone not fall in love with that beautiful baby and want to hurt her is just mind-boggling.  I'll never understand that kind of hate, that kind of evil; I just hope the family can move away from that dreadful place soon and start anew.  

If the Klan-Whitfields are capable of drowning their too-dark infants in order to pass, then they need to keep a sharp eye on Savvy and not let em anywhere near her! I put nothing past em.

Mmmm. Mmmm humpf!! Lawd-ah-mercy! Hiram's mammy is going to have a fit!! What is she going to do when the truth comes out...!?! Lol. Will she disown all her children? Plus she'd lain down and beared fruit with a black man- a few times removed sure but ole Hiram Sr. had black blood running through his veins...hahaha...probably knew it too!  No doubt his mother will deny the whole thing and act-a-fool but who cares...ole biddie! 

Anyhoo, I'm glad little Savvy is better.  If she truly has sickle cell...then in all probability both parents had/have the trait.  Camille should know her status since most states test certain races and/or ethnicities for the disease in early childhood. With this new development, Hiram and Camille should discuss the possibilities if they ever decide to expand their family.  

My hangup with this chapter was the use of the 'African American' descriptive as Camille read one of the articles...imo, I think the verbiage would"ve been 'negro' or some other reference commonly used during that era and geographic.

nevertheless, shiot is about to get real!  Thanks for the enlightening update!
