Lorilei Riley is a large black girl who was uprooted at age five when her mother marries and relocates to the small mostly white mining town of Appalachia.  She is the object of ridicule and scorn.  She immediately bonds with Micah Hamilton a young classmate who is also an outsider because of a large growth on his face.

Micah gets a chance at a normal life by having a surgery to remove the growth and Lorilei wonders as they both reach adulthood if Micah has remained with her out of friendship and loyalty or if a guy like him, could really come to  love a plus size girl like her.

Title: In The Eyes of the Beholder

I love this story, thank you so much for the quick updates..I look forward to your next update. This story is very close to my heart, being that I grew up in Virginia Beach, makes me kinda home sick, and now I def can wait to go home in December!! I love Leis  new confidence, sometimes you need wiser people to tell you truth. Growing up in Virginia Beach, I went to school with alot of skinny girls, and I thought i was fat..as I look back at my pictures I was da bomb..lol.I just had more behind beasts and hips than the regular beach girls..I went to my high school reunion and the captain of the football team who I also tutored in History and Government, told me, Kish I had this biggest crush on u in high school, i was like what..he said yeah.. i came over to your house even when there wasnt a test.. duh!!! then he says ur body was crazy, all the girls hated you.my sister included..plus i didnt think u dated white guys..i said its what i have always dated..and we just laugh..this story brings back so many memories, and your telling it so beautifully. When we start looking past our differences, this world will be an amazing place to be a part of. Thank You again..Sorry for long review..lol

Author's Response:

Thanks for your long review, Kishua!  A fellow Virginian..my heart is touched.  I'm in Richmond.  LOL

Life is stranger than fiction.  I liked your story about the guy in high school.  If only we knew then what we knew now, we'd have been lethal I tell you !  LOL.  I'm 54 and there was this skinny cute white dude in my class that used to smile at me all the time.  He looked like a rock star or something.  We used to flirt a little, but I never imagined that he really liked me.  I was blind as a bat.  I thought he was cute, but off limits because he was white.  Come to find out years later, that he felt the same way, that I was off limits because I was black.  Ah, the 70's.  What can I say?
