Summary:

In the wake of an ugly divorce, Natalia executes a scheme meant to move her beyond the hurt inflicted by her ex-husband, Richard.  The plan is to ease her suffering by increasing his, and her weapon, a younger man unwittingly drawn into the illicit plot.

Title: Chapter 19: Chapter 19 - The Parent Trap

This is exactly what I meant when I said that Natalia needs to grow up and that she allows everyone to run roughshod over. She had no interest in meeting the good doctor's parents yet there she was. She let it go when Jamison surprised her with his whole clan. Then she did not say a word to him about her parents being there. Natalia needs to communicate better.

I'm not going to split hairs over the definition of "running roughshod" (or "everyone," for that matter).  The fact is, Jamison asked (not demanded) Nat to meet his parents and she agreed as a matter of comprise because he'd been so accommodating.  And no, she didn't confront him about springing their families on her, but the middle of a dinner party is probably neither the right place nor the right time to take him to task for a seemingly innocent surprise.  Open communication, like Nat, is a work in progress.  But she is trying, not that it does her any good.  More on that next chapter.  Thanks for reading and commenting, JFJD.

The beginning of the chapter was confusing. I didn't know who was narrating.

Was Rich upset because Barbara is hot?

Matt is too good for her. She needs to hang on tightly to his friendship while she works on her issues. She should marry this guy! He was super nice when he could've (and justifiably) been a douche. Matt is awesome. He's not going to put up with crap but he does it in a very kind mature way.

Jodi impressed me this chapter. She kept it together on the phone with Matt and was able to articulate why she behaved so poorly. 

Jodi needs help and there's no shame in that. She shouldn't beat herself up over it.

Okay. Jodi is not well. Craig did set her up a bit but at the same time he was never overly friendly. Whatever the case, Jodi's reaction was ridiculous. They were friends and she literally just screwed it up. She could've left the situation with a bit more dignity. Jodi behaved as if she had borderline personality disorder.

I am glad that Jodi resisted Steve's disgusting and disrespectful advances. He's a louse. Seriously. His behavior is not cute or funny. It's actually bewildering. He's acting as if he's shown genuine interest in her. He's not her boyfriend. He's certainly not endearing himself to her with his lewd demands. I'm happy Jodi did not play into his hands.

I have enjoyed the story but I definitely understand why some readers have jumped ship. This story is very long (over 100k words!) and it has not even reached the climax. The climax should have happened several chapters ago. Characters have been developed; no further development is necessary. 

Is this story some sort of catharsis or is it just a story?

Listen to your readers. Interest is waning because the pace is too slow. 

Post the rest of your story. Then find an editor to help you pare down the story and consider posting the revised story. Most stories that are over 100k words are working on the second or third climax at this point.

Thanks for all of your reviews, JFJD. I know that you don't always agree with my approach but I appreciate the fact that you are still reading and trying to hang in there.

By making this request, I have decided to listen to what more of the readers are saying. Many of my reviews were from the same readers, which is totally fine, but I yearned for broader perspective.

I'll  continue to take the story in the direction that I see fit - just so that I don't lose myself in the process :)

My approach will definitely be different. I have so much information to relay, but I need to give it out in smaller doses and at different times in the story

Steve is a jerk. Seriously. Why is he messing with her when he knows that his brother has sincere and serious intentions? He's not even a gentleman. He's crude. His invitation was ridiculous and immature. Ask her to dinner. As he can see, she has plenty of offers of sex with nicer men. Give me a break. His game is weak. I hope she focuses her attention on getting better and dating someone that sees her as more than an object to satiate his deviant desires.

Jodi needs to see her therapist pronto. She's unraveling and having melt downs nearly every day.

What relationship? They're just having sex. They're not even friends. She has more of a relationship with Matt than Steve. All Steve has done is invited himself over food and sex. He has not even taken her out on a real date nor has he expressed any interest in doing so. He has not done anything to court her as a gentleman. He bought her sex toys. Those were not nice gifts. Those gifts are indicative of their relationship -- just sex! The only thing he's done that was alright is make her a couple meals. He has not expressed any interest beyond sex with Jodi. They could not even sustain a phone conversation. 

She and Matt did get carried away but it seems as if he's genuinely interested in getting to know her or at least is smooth enough to pretend. I don't know who Steve thinks he is but he should back off. Maybe she's not into all the craziness he's trying to bring. All that could be an experiment for her. Steve's personality is whack; he's a brute, rude, and just not cool. She and Steve don't really have a real connection. She sees that. Plus, it seems as if he's a trigger for her.

Okay, this situation could turn out very nasty. Matt is a much better match for Jodi. She and Steve don't have poop to talk about. Their conversation was stilted over the phone. The conversation seems to flow with Matt. Plus, Matt is not a jerk. All she and Steve are doing is hooking up. Hopefully, their hook ups won't ruin a potential nice long term relationship with Matt. 

Dan is freaking scary. Seriously. She needs to start carrying pepper spray with her. She needs to report his irresponsible pet owner behavior to the homeowners' association.

Jodi is in a really bad place right now. She needs to see her therapist; she's unraveling. She's ready to have sex with everyone in her circle. Fortunately, Matt and Craig are not willing to hop in bed on the first date (which weren't even real dates). She needs to handle her issues. She's using these men to keep her bad memories at bay (that Steve's nonsense triggered). She should try to meet some new friends (women friends) and get a new creative hobby (painting, writing, whatever) because she needs an outlet. She needs better coping skills and how to not feel so miserable alone. 

Did Jodi even call poor Matt?! She should've called him first thing in the morning or sent an edible fruit arrangement or something. She better not ruin it with Matt. Matt would probably give her the time she needs to work through her immediate issues and encourage her.

Jodi needs a new therapist. All that talk about the past is not helping Jodi. Jodi needs a therapist who is going to focus on CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy). Therapists have different outlooks and philosophies about therapy. Some focus on the past and some focus on the future. Jodi must find one to help her with her current situation and future. Jodi probably needs to see a psychiatrist also. It sounds as if she has PTSD or something. The way she falls into a stupor of memories and feelings is not normal. She definitely needs to switch therapists and a psychiatrist.

Too bad that creep Dan isn't moving out too.
