Title: Chapter 1: ELEPHANT TRUNK
I really want to like this story, but I cannot dismiss how you seem to try really hard to paint Izzy's mother to be ghetto, hood, or ratchet. I mean, she is obviously a bad mother because of what she allowed to happen to her child. However, the commentary about her attire, umemployment, unruly family, behavior, and even some of the things she says play right into stereotypes of black women. I get this bad black woman (Regina) v. good black woman (Kenya) vibe that leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. Even worse when it is commentary from Luc's perspective. Like, we already know she is a bad/evil person, you dont have to demonize further through stereotypes.
My black feminism and #blackgirlmagic includes my ratchet sisters as well. Don't write to pit us against eachother, society does enough of that.
It really is a great story, those things jumped out at me. Keep writing.
Xoxo,

Author's Response: Regina is not supposed to be a likeable character. It's just fiction and I don't plan to publish it outside of chamber. The majority of the readers on chamber are black women or other women of color. Trust me the caricatures that Tyler Perry makes of us sometimes are worst to the point where we know the plot of every movie and that's seen by the general public. At least here its only seen by us.
